Junodef - Gold
Hailing from Lund, Sweden, Junodef offer up unique post-rock explorations, drawing on a wide range of influences from Chelsea Wolfe to PJ Harvey and Warpaint. Having made a name for themselves in within Malmö’s underground scene, the band relocated to London. Their new surroundings have seen them take on an even wider sphere of influences, and new track ‘Gold’ sees them experimenting with electronics and trip-hop sounds.
The band tell us that “as women we know the importance of recognising each other’s work. In the music industry you actively have to search for women to cooperate with, or you are most likely to end up with a cis-male dominated team. That is why this project was run entirely by women. The music, script, and screenplay were written by women, and it was directed by, shot and edited by women.”
Regarding their own creative process, they tell us that “every song comes from a certain feeling, and it can be different factors that triggers the songwriting nerve. It’s rarely other music that inspires, it’s rather other forms of art… for example being in nature is an important source of inspiration.”

Sweden's JUNODEF return with hypnotising new single ‘Heights’
Instantly engaging, atmospheric soundscapes are able to soar effortlessly over the band’s signature spine-tingling sound. Karin Grönkvist’s (guitar / vocals) mesmerising lead vocals linger beautifully over the sombre back drop as unfurling melodies, distorted guitars, rumbling drums and sharp glitches of electronica captivate even further. Fans of PJ Harvey and Young Fathers will feel at home.
With ‘Heights,’ JUNODEF hope to continue to change the way the gender and sexuality is perceived in the industry. They currently work with forward-thinking organisations such as Girls Rock London to get young girls, trans and non-binary people to play music.
