Modern AU: Blue Surana

Blue lived in an orphanage since she was a baby, so she doesn’t know who her parents are. When she was young the doctors diagnosed her with Autism Spectrum Disorder, high functioning. 

When she was 4 , she was adopted by an older couple, Greagoir and Irving. They provided her with good but somewhat strict and restricting care. They both passed away from natural causes soon after she finished high school. 

Blue did very well in most of her classes, excelling especially in maths and sciences. However, she had very few friends because of her facial in-expressiveness and flat, robot-like tone and behaviors. 

A childless friend of her fathers’, Duncan, took her in after highschool and helped pay for her undergrad schooling. He was killed in mysterious circumstances by members of the 5th Blight crime syndicate. Blue was very distressed with his passing. 

Blue has played the piano since she was 5 years old and is very good at it. She’s won awards at many recitals and competitions. 

Modern AU: Alyss Amell

Before she left their family when Alyss was young, Revka Amell wanted her daughter to be a nurse. Alyss didn’t have anything else she really wanted to do when she was older, so she just went ahead and did that. 

Her dad taught her to read at age 4 and since then she’s never stopped. Her favorites authors are Jane Austen, Sylvia Plath, C.S. Lewis, and Michael Crichton. Some of her favorite books by these authors are Pride and Prejudice (Austen), The Bell Jar (Plath) and Jurassic Park (Crichton).

Despite being timid in social situations she is great with talking to her young patients (she works in pediatrics) and is very calm in medical crisis (did a lot of Emergency Room rotations during her time in nursing school). She’s almost like a different person when she’s working in the hospital. 

But since she is indeed shy and socially-inhibited, on her days off she spends most of her time at home reading books and watching shows.

She grew up in a very religious family which, though not openly homophobic, was not supportive of the LGBT community. She couldn’t come out as bisexual to her friends till her last years of college. She still isn’t out yet to her father or siblings.

I mean, it’s not great that I was depressed enough that nap time right after breakfast became such an important part of HIS routine

But I love that he says “okay. naps. gotta whine until mom goes to bed.” He loves me <3

So it is really fucking hard to drag yourself out of the pit once you fall in. Like really fucking hard. I was having a perfectly good time on Saturday when I was hit with the mother of all mood drops. I decided to go out with my little one, and Bae anyway. I thought that getting out would help...it was the most trying trip to the mall ever. Not only did I feel miserably blank, but then I was assaulted by the worst intrusive thoughts I've had since the fucking election. Just violent, crippling, day terrors pouring into my head. I asked my toddler to let me pick her up to try and ground myself. I nearly had a meltdown in the middle of a store. It was terrifying, and I couldn't make it stop. I just held her in the store and watched her while she watched Tiny Kitchen videos on my phone. I did my best to hide it because I didn't want Bae to worry, but she ended up buying me makeup and a video game trying to cheer me up, and I felt shite for worrying her. The good point was that she never asked me to explain myself. She was worried, but she didn't pry or push. She just tried her best to make me comfortable, and checked in with me throughout the rest of the day to see where I was. I really appreciated the support despite being unable to fully share what I was dealing with.

Fun fact, one time on an 8th grade school trip to DC (we live in Cali), we made a stop in NYC and we went to the Museum of Natural History.  I used to live in NJ, and had really fond memories of visiting the museum and I couldn’t wait to go back and revisit the exhibits. We only had an hour, and so my group decided we should get souvenirs first so we wouldn’t be scrambling to do so later; because of the rules of the chaperons, we couldn’t drift from the group so whatever the group decided you just had to roll with it.

We didn’t get to see any part of the museum because one member of the group spent 45 minutes going between two different gift shops trying to pick out the best geode to buy herself.

I'm gonna disappear for a little while again. My job is literally bananas and I'm flipping between positions because we're so under-staffed. Unfortunately, that means I have like, no time off.
