person: well at least you are ~sane~
me: lifelong. mental. conditions.
me: I function like society expects me to thanks to meds and therapy and lots of efforts
me: but I'm not sane by definition
I just... hate it when I tell people that I'm ill and they basically go "well you're not REALLY ill"
let me and my doctor decide that please?
if I want to reclaim my illness(es) and try to break the stigma it's not to have people patronize me and tell me that I'm not ill
I just don't fit their idea of what it means to be mentally ill
being able to function *is* a daily struggle and saying I'm not sick is just... minimizing my efforts?
idk, I'm getting worked up on this, the person is really sweet and I know they meant well.
I just have lots of people who've invalidated and patronized me in regards to my mental health... it just rubs me the wrong way when people say certain phrases...
ps: i dunno if anyone is gonna read it but if you do and I used language that offends you please tell me and I will own up to it and change it
