i’m not even lying when i say he literally just took my breathe away
the scene where Robby left the room because he couldn’t contain his emotions over what Langdon, as a doctor, is capable of, while everyone was congratulating him for Langdon’s achievement. and the fact that he kept blaming himself for what happened to Langdon. the mentor–protégé dynamic hit me so hard in this episode.
It really was so damn good. I desperately need to explore that in in a fic one of these days, just Robby’s perspective on Langdon and how his addiction probably felt like a self-inflicted stab wound to Robby, easier to blame the knife than the hand controlling. The amount of nights that were probably spent sitting awake thinking about how Langdon failed, but then how? What facilitated that? Who did? And he didn’t feel safe enough to come to Robby.
So seeing that glimpse of the guy he was, of the Langdon Robby respected and wanted here and loved, probably hit him like a metal bat to the chest. Despite the hellish day he’s had, the mental state he’s in, the blowing off of and hostility towards Langdon he’s given all day, he just can’t help himself. He says nice job. A small praise and then dips, because he can’t even let himself see the look he knows will show on Langdon’s face with that.
Human fort - Shauna Shipman
It was freezing. The thin summer camp blankets barely did anything, leaving skin exposed to the sharp air. Something warmer, softer, would be better. A human fort, maybe.
Well, not exactly.
Still, it had her climbing off the top bunk, reluctantly acknowledging Shauna’s invitation—purely for survival, of course.
She dangled her feet off the edge, searching for something solid to guide her descent. But there was nothing.
With a yelp, she lost her grip and landed hard on her ass beside Shauna’s bed.
“Ouch.”
A soft thud. A sharp exhale. Shauna glanced over, catching the long stretch of bare legs from the dim glow of the moonlight. Her mouth almost parted on instinct, gaze drifting up over the curves and skin on display before she caught herself and cleared her throat.
“You okay?”
There was almost concern in her voice. Almost.
She groaned from the floor, then flopped onto her back dramatically. “Yeah—except I think I just lost my ass.”
Shauna pushed herself up on her elbows, raising an eyebrow. The sheets pooled around her waist, and her loose T-shirt rode up slightly, exposing the jut of her hipbone.
“Your ass is bruised?”
She scoffed, rolling onto her side and propping herself up. “No—God, I hope not.”
Shauna didn’t look convinced. Her eyes skimmed lazily over her body, lingering in places that made her shift under the attention.
“You did it to yourself,” Shauna said, smirking as she watched her finally stand. Then, after a beat— “Now, c’mere.”
For once, it wasn’t a command. Not exactly. Just an invitation. A rare one.
She hesitated for a second, then walked over.
“Who the hell built these shitty beds?” she muttered, eyeing the wooden frame skeptically.
“It’s a summer camp. Of course they suck,” Shauna scoffed, shifting onto her side to face her.
In the dim light, her expression was unreadable, but she was watching. Closely.
She peered up at the mattress above them, doubtful. “Could this thing fall?”
Shauna followed her gaze, exhaling through her nose. “Maybe. It looks old as hell. Better not rock the bed too much unless you wanna find out.”
She wrinkled her nose. “Imagine dying because of that.”
“Shitty way to go,” Shauna murmured. Then, a beat later, her smirk returned.
“Actually, that’s probably how you’re gonna die. Crushed by a shitty bunk bed.”
She shot her a look. “That’s like, the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.”
Shauna’s smirk faltered for just a second, her lips parting slightly. Then her gaze softened, just enough to be noticeable. ”…Yeah, well.”
There was a moment of silence—one of those rare, unspoken exchanges where neither of them had to fill the quiet with sarcasm.
Then, Shauna reached out. Her fingers barely skimmed her side, a teasing ghost of a touch, but it sent a shiver up her spine.
“How’s the ass?”
She laughed, running a hand through her hair. “Better now.”
“Good,” Shauna mused, her fingers trailing up over her back—light, lazy. Then her grip firmed slightly at her hip, squeezing.
She startled, blinking at her.
“Wouldn’t want the best ass in camp to get bruised, after all.”
She let out a startled laugh. “Hey—you’re actually funny.”
“Gee, thanks.”
There was a hint of sarcasm, but Shauna wasn’t actually annoyed. If anything, she looked vaguely amused, resting her palm against the small of her back, rubbing slow circles into it.
Her hand drifted upward, fingers brushing higher.
Feeling bolder, she reached for Shauna in return, brushing back a stray piece of dark hair. “You’ve got a knot here,” she murmured, gently untangling it.
Shauna blinked, her body going rigid for just a second. She wasn’t used to this.
Not from Jackie. Not from anyone.
Her grip loosened, but she didn’t pull away. She just looked at her—brows furrowed, lips slightly parted.
“What?” Shauna said, voice lower now.
She smiled slightly, tilting her head. “Nothing. Just admiring you.” A smirk ghosted her lips. “After all, I’m gonna be stuck looking at your face every night. Might as well appreciate it.”
Shauna rolled her eyes, but the color rising to her cheeks gave her away. “You can’t sleep?”
She hummed. “Nope.”
“Maybe try shutting up and closing your eyes. That might help.”
“I talk too much, huh?”
Shauna huffed. “You talk constantly.”
She grinned, settling deeper into the mattress, and Shauna exhaled in amusement, shaking her head.
“I can tell I’m gonna have fun with you.”
The teasing was there, but so was the honesty.
She shifted slightly, eyes fluttering shut. “Don’t expect too much from me, though.”
Shauna studied her for a moment before allowing herself to relax, letting her head sink into the pillow.
“Trust me,” she murmured, her hand still idly tracing circles on her waist. “You’ve already exceeded my expectations.”
A quiet smile spread across her lips.
Neither of them moved.
Neither of them really wanted to.
