Story Time: Crying when I saw David
Okay my lovelies, get nice and comfy cause I’m gonna tell you a story (it’s been a while).
So on Tuesday May 12, 2015 me an my art tour group got into Florence, Italy. My teacher was showing us around this beautiful and wonderfully historic city of Florence before we were to go into the Academy which holds many of Michelangelo’s finest pieces, among them is David. I knew David was massive and I knew all of the history behind him and I was pretty excited to see him, but he definitely wasn’t the piece I was most excited to see on the trip.
After waiting in line for about an hour we got in. And I just knew I needed to see him immediately. So the second I got in I saw that he wasn’t in that room so I went left and I saw him at the end of the hall. Lit up like a God. I walked, speed walked, jogged, past the unfinished slaves (which I was also very excited to see, please look them up if you haven’t heard of them before, they’re also by michelangelo) until I stopped in front of David. And in that moment everyone disappeared around me all I saw was him. And it all hit me and I started crying silent tears and then sobbing. I started at just his face for about 30 minutes and made sure to take in every beautiful detail. He looked so real and so perfect. After walking around him and staring for forever I went to go sit on the ground off to the side by him and continued staring but began writing my thoughts. I reflected on how Michelangelo was a true master and was truly inspired, he had to be with the gift that he had. In just David’s eyes you see everything. You see his strength and determination and also his fear and faith. His face reminds you that he was a boy despite the rest of his body being that of a young adult man. There is so much emotion in his position and face. And when I was there I felt so at peace, really around all of Michelangelo’s sculptures I felt peace and everything was clear to me.
I just wanted to share that experience and let everyone know that Art is incredibly important, and it’s even more important to want to know about it and to learn. So I to encourage all of you to think of some artwork that you love or even just like and to do a little research, even wikipedia it. You’ll be surprised with what you learn and what you might feel towards that piece. Art is a beautiful thing, please try and appreciate it more!
anyone...
can just one person message me....? no? okay...
IMPORTANT!
Please, if everyone could sendandewscott a super nice message, please, it would be so nice! She has been getting a lot of anon hate lately and has thought of killing herself. I think this is really important, I don't want anyone harassed on this site or anywhere in general. It would be horrible if someone's life was gone because of mean people who think it's fun to send horrible, cruel, mean messages to lovely people who haven't done anything to them. Please just send her a sweet message even if you don't know her, maybe send some anon love instead of anon hate. I personally don't know her but I think this is rather important. Please spread the word and have others message her sweet things also. SPREAD THE LOVE NOT HATE :) ♥♥♥♥
Please
I can't sleep without knowing your okay :(
To the anon
The anon that planned on killing their self, he messaged me and is the nicest person I've ever encountered. He had a terrible story but a beautiful heart. I was so glad I could help. As to everyone else out there, please don't hide. I and many other people here wants to help. I dont care how long it will take to keep you away from that gun, knife, rope, cliff I want to help.
