if I had a nickel for every time someone in an 1850s Verdi opera based on a Eugène Scribe libretto originally written for a different opera by a different composer unsuccessfully attempted to get the ruler of a place to leave a masked ball they were hosting at their house in their capital city because the significant other of the person warning was planning to attempt to assassinate them with some other characters‘ help in the middle of the party and the person being warned didn’t listen, I’d have two nickels.

the Bayerische Staatsoper has sound effects to replicate opera house sounds and I’m DYING

I’m very distracted right now by the fact that there is an aria in Dorilla in Tempe that has the same title and text as one from Alcina but I can’t find a libretto for either one so I’m left wondering if it actually is the same or if I’m hallucinating better Italian comprehension than I actually have.

As far as I know they don’t have the same librettist or source material but given composers were swapping texts left and right I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
