BUT REALLY THOUGH THAT POST I JUST RBED
as @alt0stratuscloud said in the tags like... Sol may have had thousands of years of knowledge in him but he wasn't like actively conscious until barely before Krypton exploded.
He's so new to all of it and every other person under his protection just died. He failed to protect everyone... except for Kal. Except for this small, scared kid who was told the people he loved would be able to come with them, and then they didn't, because Sol couldn't keep them all safe. So of course he bundles Kal close to him, as they speed further and further away from the planet both of them have known all their lives, the planet Sol has thousands of years' worth of knowledge from, the planet the woman who brought him to life was from and he couldn't even save her.
He won't admit it, even to himself, but he's scared. Because if Kal dies, what happens to Sol? If Kal dies, what does that mean about him? That he failed everything? And Kal is sobbing and screaming and slamming his fists on the walls and he won't eat and Sol can't help him and he keeps saying he wants to die and Sol wasn't prepared for any of this.
He's scared, and he just lost everything too, and he doesn't know what he's doing. All he knows is there's this scared little boy inside of him and he has to try and make him feel safe and cared for in this sea of empty space, this raging ocean of grief. So he will care for him. He will care for him because that is his purpose. He softens his walls where Kal pounds so he won't hurt his hands. He gives him a safe place to lay and wraps around him when he cries. He reminds him to eat, tells him every day he is looking for a safe place to land. He does not know how to comfort Kal. He does not know if they will find a home, but all he can do is assure Kal he is looking. He is trying his best. It is the only thing he has to hold on to.
