Not Another Gaming Creepypasta.

You know all those creepypasta stories about mysterious haunted videogames? This isn't one of those. It was just a weird glitch.

I was playing Mario All-Stars on my SNES, going through Mario 1. I somehow jumped over the flag pole. Some of you probably know that if you do that, you're stuck in an endless loop. You can't go back because of the way that ratchet scrolling works. I didn't know that when I was that young. So I carried on.

Eventually, the floor tiles changed, from stone to grass. A white picket fence appeared, which I’d never seen before. I arrived at one of the castle buildings, but it looked a bit different, like sprites from a different game. The colours and shapes were off, not the usual orange-brown bricks.

There was a figure in the doorway. Weirdly, it looked like Peach from Mario 3. Then the game glitched out, the music hung on a single note. The screen went white.

Scared, I turned off the console and ran to tell my Dad. He reassured me, told me that the console got confused and probably tried to load sprites from another game on the cart, which cause it to crash. That seemed to make sense.

But something about that house past the game boundary, and that figure standing in the doorway has haunted me all these years. I never saw that glitch again, and I've never heard of anyone else who experienced it.
