I think that out of the two of them, Marik is the one who is the most preoccupied with putting up "a confident, has-his-shit-together" act and he's very good at it, even managing to fool his siblings-up to some extent-because keeping up appearances is very important to him. Hell, it comes as second nature to him since it's what he's needed to do since birth to survive: he had to be a good heir to keep his Father happy, then prove he was capable of overthrowing the Pharaoh to liberate his clan and avenge his Father's murder, and now he has to prove the second chance he was given at life was worth it.

His life is all about proving why he deserves to be alive to those around him, and it's really a fucking wonder how he manages to keep himself together as well as he does. I think he is riddled with tons of insecurities and self-doubt, MOUNTAINS of it, that he keeps repressed, even around those closest to him. But I think Bakura is the only one who is truly able to see through all the bullshit walls Marik puts up and like, really look at him... and Marik lets him, because he understands what living like that is like, and perhaps that's why he allows himself to crumble every once in a while in Bakura's arms.

KYOSUKE KIRYU my good friend from 5ds omg I love that bitch. he has the most insane character arc ever they bring him in and he's sick in the head then he dies in yusei's arms and then comes back as a cowboy actively trying to kill himself hes a father by the end of his cowboy arc ITS SO GOOD. also his dub name is so cute kalin kessler my good friend.

4. YURI YUGIOH ARC-V i've only know him for like 2 months but potentially the most me bait yugioh character to date. his color scheme is made up of my two favorite colors and he's a little cunt it's hilarious. HIS DECK ROCKS SO HARD I LOVE PREDAPLANTS and his ace starving venom fusion dragon she is so beautiful to me. hes only in like 30ish eps which is a damn shame cuz he's so good. they couldn't handle his power. also i've only heard clips of it but his dub voice is UNBELIEVABLE I think they told the VA to just do an asshole voice and he kills it it's amazing

3. KITE TENJO where do I begin. mr yugioh zexal rival he is incredible. yugioh always knocks it out of the park with big brother characters but kite might just be the best one his bond with hart is so sweet it makes me sob. he engineered a robot at like age 12 to help him take care of his brother and im :'). his deck is amazing #galaxyeyesphotonSWEEP and his character arc was so wonderful to watch. his dub voice is one of my favorites of all time he sounds PERFECT like genuinely when he appeared in arc-v it took me a while to get used to his sub voice. HE'S CATHOLIC. i think he's the first yugioh rival to die on screen. he's incredible. kite tenjo world domination

2. REGINALD "SHARK" KASTLE. THIS FUCKING GUY !!!! if we're talking about insane character arcs he is like top 5 that boy did it all. he's the rival he's the best friend he's a big brother he's the VILLAIN??? they put him through the war. he grew on me so so much as I kept watching and especially in zexal II he's incredible. there's so much i wanna say cuz they really did it all with him. his drive to protect his sister and those around him makes me sob like he's the most 14 year old of all time. acts like he doesn't care but jumps in line first to help out. he's sososo good. love shark to death

JADEN YUKI THE KING HIMSELFFFF my favorite yugioh protag he is so beloved to me. he's so sweet and has one of the most unreal character arcs of all time it's INSANE but so good. i'm a little biased cuz I love gx sosososo much but also that's the Jaden Yuki Effect he's wonderful. PIONEERED THE HERO ARCHETYPE. WHICH NOW HAS THE MOST CARDS OF ANY ARCHETYPE. he's just such a joy to watch anytime he's on screen and his growth throughout gx makes me cry like i was a mess the last few eps. being the first yugioh spinoff protag is not easy but he did it and he rocks so hard. i have such love in my heart for him

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

not THE favorite thing but A favorite thing, I just love his fashion sense 😭 lavender crop top hoodie and cargo pants (+ pinky rings in the manga), getting a bunch of scary purple cloaks for him and all his little henchman so they have some brand recognition on the streets. He's so cool....

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

His relationship with Rishid is so good... like it's not super simple and not entirely healthy. Yes Marik sees Rishid as part of the family, but he does still view him as someone below himself. He's struck him in anger before, and in the manga he mocks Rishid for carving his face in an act of servitude. Rishid loves Marik very much, but he's also thought about killing him for being a source of the abuse he's faced. They have so much going on, very messy and interesting stuff!!

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

ryou tbh...

Like yeah there's angst there if you want the 'bonding over being possessed by malevolent spirits' stuff but even more than that they have some complimentary interests. I think after the disillusionment with his family's prophecy, Marik would be very interested in human psychology/religion/superstition across lots of cultures, kind of going with Ryou's penchant for the occult. And if Marik wanted to talk about his own background, Ryou would definitely want to listen lol

2. Which scene was your favorite to write in Cornered? :3c

Oh boy oh boy……

Cornered spoilers under the cut (since it’s a pretty recent fic hehe)

Ok ok don’t hate me but my favorite scene to write was the ryou breaks his ankle scene ;_;

It was just a really important point in the story for all the characters, but especially for ryou because it was kind of like the “oh shit I can’t leave” realization. It was his lowest point and it was important to me to show that like ….you can’t always be strong and fight …… it’s a morbid way of putting it but what ryou really needed in that moment was to stop fighting in order to stay sane (for lack of a better word) and that is so fucking valid in my humble little opinion...

Wow sorry that was wayyy longer and way more analytical than I thought it would be— To put it more simply it was also just really FUN to write because bakura is just so unhinged and I was happy to remind everyone that he is very capable of violence 👁👄👁 dnxjsjxjhs

Gah, that's a really hard question bc I just noticed I have 150 fics on ao3, and it's difficult to choose. I'd default to saying AIP, but the 'punchy oneshots' that are supposed to have a somewhat unsettling atmosphere (most of my Zib stuff, the Sonic Reverse AU thing, ect) are my favorites to see people react to, even though most of them don't have that many comments individually, because they tend to be what I'm proudest of.

What is something you recently felt proud of in regard to your writing (finished a fic, actually planned for once, etc)?

I finished Temporal Displacement, (the sequel to AIP) and that took nearly two full years, so I'm pretty proud that I didn't just let it rot. (I also tweaked the final chapter a bit to make it a little more clear that Twix's 'solution' to avoiding a time loop may have caused Zim's paranoia to dip, causing him to shut himself up in the base, and then in an attempt to rationalize why he was doing that, develop the plan that led into the movie, so she ended up stabilizing the timeline anyway! I was proud of that link and had it planned since near the beginning, but by the time I got to the end I didn't want to linger on it too long, I just wanted to have it done.)
