Connor? No. Nonononono...not Connor. Anyone but Connor. He wasn't even supposed to be on that mission. He was supposed to stay on base. Why did he get on that helicopter? Connor never wanted to fight. He didn't deserve this...that kid deserved to have a life and a family. Her jaw tightened at the thought of the joyful, smiling boy laying dead in the dirt with glassy eyes starring up at nothing. No. God, why couldn't it have been her? She deserved to die more than anyone. War bowed her head and looked at the ground for a moment. Tears began to form in the corner of her eyes and threatening to fall....and then she exploded.
"You were supposed to watch out for him! You were supposed to keep him safe!" She snapped, her eyes instantly going black. "He was just a fucking kid! Why didn't you protect him? You should have gotten him out of there!" She just exploded on Brooklyn out of pure rage. He was Connor's big brother. He was supposed to look after him. "How could you do this, Brooklyn?!" MES focus on the mission and the other soldiers. Not each other. Derek's words rang out in her head. "Don't tell me you just let him die...Don't tell me you just left that kid." Brooklyn followed orders. Did he leave Connor to save someone else? She grabbed him by the collar of his uniform and shoved him into the helicopter so hard his head bounced off the metal. "What the hell did you do!? Why didn't you save him?"
When Brooklyn didn't answer quick enough she shoved him away, hands grabbing at the side of her head. She let out an agonizing cry, sinking to her knees in the dirt. The little boy she had kept safe for so long was dead. The one that always just wanted a hug or to play a game. The one she had 'saved' so long ago when he was a Gamma. Her friend. Her little brother. She hadn't been there to protect him. A sickening thought suddenly crossed her...she had never even told the kid she loved him. Her finger nails dug into the side of her skull. I love you, War! His innocent voice tormented her mind.
Blood started dripping from her hands, her grip on her head was so tight. Releasing her grip, she brought her hands down to look at the blood. Slowly, War got back to her feet and reached for the 'Saint Michaels Protect Me' pendant she wore around her neck and squeezed it tightly. "Your time in hell is over soldier...You don't have to be Alpha 122 anymore...you can just be Connor now."
