The first time I met the brilliant Herbie Hancock and James Genus I was a child. I can’t even express how different it is to digest their magnificence as a grown woman. They are both such humble souls and they share of themselves in the most awe inspiring ways. We all know people who act like they are God’s gift to the world but these are true men amongst men. To have Herbie look in my eyes and say, “don’t be afraid to be different. You don’t wanna sound like everyone else.” It was everything I needed to hear & feel, straight from the voice of experience (he straight Yoda’d me). And to listen to their evolutions...I was truly dumb struck. All I can do is sit in gratitude. Thankful to my brother @dabassman87 who pushes me, in his own ways, everyday to be the best me I can be. Grateful for not giving up on myself. Grateful for being used, because it showed me what I’m capable of. And like Herbie said, “some people will take credit for your work, but you know the truth and that’s all that matters.
