“What the hell happened to you?!”
Valentine wiped the back of his hand over his mouth, hissing as his busted lip stung. “Would you believe me if I said I walked into a wall?” He slumped into a stool in front of Shiloh. It was a weeknight, and that meant even Eden was mostly empty. “I’m surprised your man let me in.”
Shiloh reached out to him, and Valentine grabbed his hand, moving it away. “No.”
“Who hit you?” Shiloh's voice did not carry the same lightheartedness that Valentine’s did.
“It was stupid. Some guy didn’t like me talking to his girl. I’d say you should see the other guy, but we both know I’m a pacifist now.”
