“It’s like they’re trying to make a point, but I have no idea what it is.” This, this, this! Like you said, they’re trying so hard to connect it to rl events, but in a really weird and nonsensical way to the point that whatever ~message they’re trying to convey just becomes muddled and lost. I genuinely don’t understand the point of this main storyline and it has no emotional resonance because it doesn’t make sense and isn’t believable.
I’ve come to the conclusion that maybe they don’t have a point. They were just like #impeachment #foreign interference, it’s what the cool kids are talking about, let’s include it! In a completely irresponsible way!
It’s more than a little disappointing, because their family separation episode was done fairly well.
And yeah a female president will face heightened scrutiny, but this is a v weird way to showcase that. I don’t think “more likely to accept intelligence from foreign entities during a campaign” is really a stereotype women are fighting.
