About to head past the Hall of Justice for #RoseFromConcrete. Mine is small and handmade but that’s ok! Please check them out today, they’re an instillation to remember the 13,000 people murdered or locked in LA police custody. It’s easy to overlook police violence that happens behind bars because it’s out of our sight, so #JusticeLA is using roses to bring their lives to light at the Hall of Justice. It’s a social distancing event that you do from your car, so it’s great if you’re not able to safely join the other protests and vigils out through the streets this week. I’m so grateful for these kinds of events. Swipe for the details! . I’ve been much louder on my twitter lately because right now isn’t the time for self image promotion which instagram is all about, but if you haven’t been following me there and it wasn’t clear: I am fully behind these protests, Black Lives Matter, ending Qualified Immunity, and the defunding and demilitarization of the police. LA is steeped in police violence that disproportionately effects the Black community and it’s beyond time to change. If you’re angry or inconvenienced by these protests and curfews or don’t understand how it involves you, I’d urge you to look into your own neighborhood police department’s history of misconduct and their budgets. Every single town in America has cases of excessive violence, racial profiling, sexual harassment, a lack of disciplinary action, and an overinflated budget that they try to bury but can be found with a little looking. It’s time to listen to what our Black communities have been saying for a century, scrutinize those who claim to serve us, hold them accountable for every way that they’ve failed us, and tear out the system’s rotten roots. https://www.instagram.com/p/CBDwgcMDFwU/?igshid=1favtbw8pqsk5
