I'm in the middle of _Thinking, Fast and Slow_, by a Nobel (economics!) prizewinner. You want a novel, try _Wolf Hall_ by Hilary Mantel. It starts her account of Thomas Cromwell and his managing of two of Henry VIII's marriages. (Guardian called it the best book of the past 20 years.)
Oh, Wolf Hall actually rings a bell! One of those books I’ve been meaning to read forever.
And is that where the whole system 1/system 2 dichotomy originally came from? I’ll really need to see how butchered my understanding of it is.

Oh, come on. For a certain generation of American SF fans and tech nerds, Hitchhiker’s Guide was ubiquitous for half a decade, in the way Monty Python had been, earlier.
Oh, I knew the book/TV/radio/movie, of course. I am a huge Hitchhiker's nerd -- I just hadn't known the reference. I had always interpreted "Telephone Santizer" to be just that -- a person who santizes the telephone -- and interpreted the joke as:
a) someone who cleans the ends in public phone boxes
and
b) a completely useless, made-up job that was silly.
I mean, I guess what a telephone sanitizer really was fit "b" pretty well, just not "a".
Stop taunting me about Mad Men, you bastard. They're currently doing acid on the show, and they haven't brought enough for everybody.
