5 Things I Like:
1. Micro Four Thirds lens mount with Super 35 sensor - use any lens
2. Variable Scan Mapping - VSM sensor - adjust angle of view from Super 35, MFT, and Super 16, plus sensor zooming with zoom rocker.
3. UHD 4K 4:2:2 8-bit 60/30/24p at 150Mbps or 70Mbps in Quicktime .MOV format on SD cards UHS-1 Speed Class 3. Can also shoot Cinema 4K at 150Mbps, Cinema 2K at 50Mbps and 4:2:2 HD at 50Mbps from 60/30/24 and AVCHD. Quicktime easy to edit and playback.
4. J-Log
5. Outputs HD-SDI and HDMI outputs - HDMI 4K output. Only HD output when shooting 4K 4:2:2 internally. Outputs live streaming via USB.
5 Things I don’t Like:
1. Low Light - not good after 1600 ISO, native ISO 800 for J-Log
2. Body - cheap feeling, not weather resistant, flimsy LCD, low resolution LCD and EVF, curiously no 3.5 audio jack
3. J-Log is the only usable picture profile, others look like 10 year old video. J-Log not a lot of dynamic range. Must expose accurately.Very difficult to intercut with other cameras.
4. Autofocus - slow, LCD can’t tell focus, auto or manual, need focus external focus aids
5. Price - $2,000-$2,500. Large fairly affordable batteries. Cheap SD cards.
Recommended for: Beginning filmmakers - high school, college, hobbyists Videographers/filmmakers who already own other camera bodies and lenses - use LS300 as testing device. Sit down interviews Multicam studio filming
Not good for: Run and gun, event video, documentaries, narrative, sports, travel.
