Camp Cretaceous Countdown: Favorite Friendship

Yaz and Darius

This prompt was somehow far more challenging than “Favorite Character”, because I had to sort through a lot of interactions, figuring out who played best off of one another and who I most wanted to see work together in an episode, while simultaneously filtering out ship-ships (even Dinostar, who have perfect interactions all the time as friends) and determining how much a friendship causes characters to grow (Kenji and Darius, Ben and Darius...)...but in the end, it was these two--because at the end of the day there isn’t that much between them.

Yasmina and Darius are the two opposite ends of the entire Campfam. She’s a fifteen-year-old jock who probably knows absolutely nothing about dinosaurs, and he’s a twelve-year-old nerd who would probably be out of breath after two minutes of running if it weren’t for his Unlimited Child Energy. There’s absolutely no reason why the two of them would ever even speak to each other...except for this adventure.

And they play off of one another incredibly well! Yasmina may not like people that much, but she’s still a team player, and it doesn’t take much for her to see this small child and realize “Oh, he needs to be protected. Put your seatbelt on, little one! Why are you running at me?!? I will not let you fall!” And Darius, the leader of the group, looks at Yasmina and thinks “Strong arms. Fast legs. Useful powers.” 

Yet, even when they’re out of danger, they’re obviously comfortable in one another’s presence. Darius is always happy to support her and spark her imagination; and Yaz draws great pictures of dinosaurs, which Darius thinks is cool. It’s not quite a big-sister/little-brother relationship, even if it has a similar feel: it’s more of a Darius-is-the-brains, Yaz-is-the-muscle deal. Let me know when that dynamic gets boring.

Day 3: Favourite ship - Yasammy

Choosing any favorites in this show is so hard. I love Benji and Yasammy the same, but went with the girls this time, because otherwise I feared I would turn this event into the Kenji appreciation month.  Also those two are just so so cute.

Kenji and Yaz headcannons!

- Their friendship is really neat bc they’re the two oldest ones of the fam and yet they’re complete opposites, with Yaz being the “adult” of the group and Kenji being...well, Kenji.

- While Kenji sucks at algebra, he can do multiplications at lightning speed. Yaz was a math genius until she met fractions and well...let’s say that was her downfall.

- They play arm wrestling, and Yaz always wins. 

- They have the longest convos in the Camp Fam gc at unholy hours of the night. That usually continues with Brooklynn choosing sides (”B what are u doing here” “I’m editing, Kenji”) and Sammy trying to calm everyone down. Sometimes they wake Ben up, which means that if you see “Ben is typing” you better run bc he’s writing a lenghtly text about how they need to shut up and stop waking him up at 3 AM. Darius wakes up to 300 new messages, an essay from Ben and a private text from Brooklynn saying “dude wake up they’re fighting again”.

- Yaz can lift Kenji up I’m not elaborating on this

- Kenji, Yaz and Ben once competed on who can climb a tree faster. Both of them fell off after like 10 seconds and Ben won. They do not acknowledge the race ever again.

- Yaz finds out about the “city boy” thing and has a laughing fit for about three hours.

- (Expanding on the “they’re the “adults” of the fam” thing) They argue a lot (it’s all in good fun tho). One day it gets out of hand and Yaz yells “Well then maybe we shouldn’t be friends!” (or something as dramatic like that idk). Kenji goes silent for a few seconds, until he says “Fine. But I get to keep custody of Darius”, and Yaz starts fighting him for the custody and Darius is just in the background like “what the heck” (bonus: they yell back “don’t f*cking swear!”)

- Yaz hides Kenji’s sunglasses every once in a while

- In retaliation Kenji takes her sketchbook

- Turns out they’re both terrible at hiding stuff, so they always find them in less than 5 minutes after they got stolen.

- Yaz curses a lot and Kenji always yells “Language!” (yk, like in Age of Ultron)

i really had a debate in my own head about wjat friendship to choose bc literally ALL the friendships in this show are SO FUCKING AMAZING-

but, yk, it's always the lesbian and the bisexual disaster❤

(Darius and Kenji are tied with them in my rankings btw)

Listen... their friendship isn't heavily focused but they get along great and individually they each have great vibes that has people gravitate towards them.

I just love these two :)
