K-27 was the only experimental attack submarine of Project 645. During a test run in 1968, the power suddenly dropped sharply with no explanation and the crew was not properly trained to handle the situation. The crewmen couldn't manage to bring power levels back up, but they did manage to shut down the reactor. However, radioactive gasses leaked into the sub and everyone on board became irradiated, a few died soon after the incident. The sub was still used for experiments until 1979 and was later buried at sea in 1982.
