she had been waiting for it. waiting for her manager to tell her it was time to head to the stage. she had been beyond bored while she waited, she had already visited all the idols she could’ve. the longer she waited the quicker she wanted to get on stage. so when he said it was time, she almost ran. kami was aware she might have looked a little silly but she hoped everyone could see her excitement. promoting between her fellow idols have been a real thing too, if the song could blow up with them then it might blow with the public. even if she doubted it mostly.
there was a feeling. walking out onto stage to her place and realizing the people were there for her. just her. it was a feeling she could get drunk on. somehow she managed to focus, waiting for the music. and when she turned, dancer’s out the way she could only smile. they always have them work on stage expressions but nothing could stop the huge smile she had once she really got into the dance.
every moment was perfect. she had worked to hard on perfecting her dance for it to fail now. no nerves. being on stage was one thing that could make her feel powerful. kami settled on having fun with it, that was all she wanted. she wanted a chance for people to see her like this. as a performer. once again, once it came to leave the stage she didn’t want too but it had to be done. maybe once she promoted a bit more, it'd be easier to walk away but she didn't think that would be the case.
it wasn’t long before she was on it again and kami stood towards the back. she didn’t have any thoughts about winning on music shows. she had a different goal and winning an award would just be another great thing to happen. it was safe to say she was tired when it was finally time to leave but she put up a brave face when she saw her fans outside, acting as energetic as ever. she knew they thought she would be tired but that wasn't the case at all.
it was only when she was in the car that she let her face relax and leaned back into her seat. she’d bask in the feeling once she got home.
she had a plan. it felt like she needed a plan. with her groups fan base being small and her own fan base being even smaller, the company might not want to take the chance. yes, she was apart of the oldest group in the company it felt like the other's would be a bit easier. the guys had fan bases that could drive sales. the company would be willing to take the risk on them.
kami couldn't say that same for herself. or she wouldn't bother to let that happen. this was her future, she'd be as aggressive as she needed to be to get on the path she wanted. so she asked her manager to set up a meeting and kami came prepared, now she just had to walk in and do it. two out of three people in the room she already knew. her manager sat a little further in the back so she took the chance to introduce herself. once that was finished, kami got ready for to present. "i'm here to talking about pushing out a solo mini-album. i know there might be some reservations about it but i'm confident it's a good step forward." it was a good step forward for her at least.
"you can turn to page one in the hand out i provided."
and she didn't watch to make sure they did, instead she pushed on. opening her laptop, the music was already ready. "what you waiting for might not have jumped to the top of the charts and this album might not either but it does create a base. with the brand deal and my channel having steady engagement, people will start to notice." just keep going. that was the only thing she told herself. "i already have a demo set up for the album, a few tracks. most of them are unfinished and i brought them to give you an idea of the album sound but there is one that has been fully mixed." and could have changes they wanted. something she didn't mention, it didn't need to be said out loud.
"since the group is already known for having a shocking concept, i want to take it a step further." something that would make waves in the media. good or bad. she pushed on, taking time to play the demo'd songs. kami wasn't sure if she convinced them by the end but she did do her best. she laid out all the cards and came as prepared as she could.
of course, she'd fight back if they did reject but she didn't want that.
she wanted their vote of confidence and the respect that came along with it.
if she had been nervous the day before, kami was in control now. she had been waiting backstage, waiting for the moment she could show herself.
minhee would be her mc for the day and she already knew that was one delight for the fans. she could hear the screams when minhee appeared, one of kami's more publicly known idol friends. the other woman was already talking and she could hear the cheer's of fans. a staff member signaled her and she knew it was time. it had been the flashing lights from the selected members of the press that she saw first. but her eyes went right to her fans she took her place for mastering. they would open the showcase with this number.
it had been a show to perform and soon enough the song was over. two chairs had been brought out, one for minhee and one for her. along with a towel a towel to cover her legs, since she had been dressed in her stage outfit. but before she sat down, there had a been a moment to really introduce herself.
"hello! i'm gal.actic's kami and thank you for being here for my showcase." she said a little bit more then finally took her seat. her gaze kept going to her fans and even as she spoke kami was simply taking in the moment. this should've happened a few years ago. at one point she didn't think it would and then she made sure it would. this was all of her hard-work coming to life. and she would be able to preform soon enough. fever had been chosen because it was as fun track and leggo because she had a small surprises for her fans and the press. before she knew it, it was time.
they told them what songs would come next and kami got into position as the backup dancers came on stage. they flew through fever and after a minute or so went into leggo. then as the chorus came on, kami pointed to the side as youngjoo walked onto stage. the screams were a little louder and she could hear the camera's clicking. this was her little gift. and it was fun, leggo didn't require dancing, just them enjoying the stage together.
when it was over, kami gave youngjoo a chance to speak and waved goodbye as she left.but she didn't sit back down, it was almost over. so much time had passed. minhee was back and they fell into conversation. it was easier with minhee, she could be comfortable. this was a friend, someone she knew. it wasn't awkward at all. they talked more about the album and the process of making it. how kami approached it. but the end had to come at some point.
"once again, thank you for coming and supporting. please listen to the album and support it. we'll be ending with touch." she handed over the mic and got into place. the opening notes played and once again kami was in character. it flew by but she enjoyed every second of it. her solo debut, a mini album and music show promotions.
and the best part was that this was the start.
it had been hard to say goodbye but she had to do it. stopping for a few poses with minhee and saying goodbye to her fans. soon enough she was backstage and changing her clothes. her celebration wasn't over, it was time go out with minhee and really bask in her debut.
