in company parties were something she was used to. if she were being honest, in company parties were something she both loved and hated in equal measure. as somewhat of a social butterfly, there was only so many people she could really introduce herself to before she practically knew people by name or association.
so cross-company parties, rare as they were, were something yeona cherished.
before she could even hear or see the venue, she was already on the heels of her feet. an energy coursing through her body as excitement took over her. the entertainment industry could be considered a small world in itself; people tended to know people, specially if they had already made a name for themselves. that was to say, the star of the event needed no introduction when her group came up to be welcomed.
“thanks for the invite, miss kami,” yeona said, smiling. they were neither friends nor acquaintances; the invite probably came from her manager but it was the courteous thing to say. “you must be pretty excited for the release of your first full album! is that one of your songs playing inside?”
“miss kami?” she titled her head the side a bit, repeating the saying. “i like the sound of that.” she took a moment to study the girl. “you’re a member of wish right?” she couldn’t place the name right in this moment but she was sure she was a member of wish. “yes....” she finally answered, leaning a bit to get a good listen. “i think they’re playing kazino right now.” this was a song to vibe too.
“let’s talk inside.” she said, pulling the other girl along with her. “but yes, i’m very excited, every thing i released so far has lead up to this moment.” all of the singles and mini albums, it was finally time to let herself shine with a full album. even better than that, it was low but she managed to chart a bit. “hence, tonight, i need everyone to have the night of the their life.”
fmdjeonghwa:
“oh thanks,” jeonghwa’s cheeky smile matches the playful and light slap she set on kami’s arm. “i’d hope a decade for now, what people think of about me and my music is that i had fun, and made other people feel that way, too.” legacy was a strange concept to wrap herself in. knowing she was a public figure, and conflating that to bragging about her popularity or influence felt worlds apart. jeonghwa never wanted to be someone who grew too big of a head just because some people liked her and what she did.
her brow raised, “dance with you? oh honey, i’ve got you covered.” she took one of kami’s hands, raised it above their heads, and spun the girl around, then led her closer to the groups of people dancing. “we can make a connection all nice if that’s what your little heart desires,” she said, then louder, though without much conviction, “hey dj, turn it up!”
“we share that mindset.” yes, she did want a successful music career but she wanted to make music people could have fun with, listen too, no matter the year or moment. aside from a few songs here and there, her entire aim had been to music that was fun, that made people like the idols they were watching. “and i’m sure they will, or i will at the very least.”
kami let out a laugh, a real one and jeonghwa spin and pull her around. she could take a bit of break from making her rounds to just have fun and enjoy the party. “that’s all i would like for the night, connections and everyone having fun.” and so far, she was doing pretty well. kami wasn’t sure if the dj heard her or not but the music did get louder as kitty run came on. “i wonder if i started doing the dance to this, how many would be able to follow.” she was in a room full of idols after all but for now, kami was happy to just move.
fmdxdaiyu:
daiyu didn’t spend a lot of time outdoors, but she occasionally liked to spend a few hours in the park. and really there was no other place she could have a picnic. most of the time she went when it was quite. nothing but the trees blowing in the wind. but today she went in the afternoon wanting to soak up the last few hours of sunlight.
“no. sorry don’t really want to go jail for murder. i don’t really now you but we can change that.” they could have possibly met at the fantasy fest concert last month. maybe passed by each other. the only reason she approached the other women is because she seemed to be an idol. or at least she had the look. it was a terrible idea to begin with but it was late to rethink it now.
kami nodded her head, letting out a hum. “an idol i’m assuming?” she had expected the other girl to introduce herself, that didn’t happen so she had to do a little assuming as well.
“and i don’t think we’re in the same copy.” she had thought about it but she hadn’t seen this face in a while. while she might not be the best with names, she could at least remember if someone was in her company or she saw them around. “well, then, i’m gal.actic’s name.” at least she could push the introduction forward. “and you are?”
fmdjeonghwa:
jeonghwa dipped into a ridiculous curtesy. “thank you, thank you. i’m so happy to be here. i mean, i’ll take any opportunity for a party. this idol life’s tough, why not live a little while we’re young right?” she hadn’t even needed to hear who the invite was from before she was agreeing to come along. finding out who did eventually happen, and honestly, made her agreement all the better. -alright, keep on track, jeonghwa, this is totally not the time to be going on about your party habits. it was a party specifically for kami’s success. she turned her thoughts into words with, “congrats on your album by the way. i’ve listened to it a bunch. your titles are like, always sick as hell.”
“but it’s your party, shouldn’t i be tending to you? could i get you a drink or a plate of food or anything? star of the night deserves the star treatment.”
“and i’m happy to have you here.” honestly, she was sure at the end of the night she wouldn’t know half of the people in the place. that wasn’t a problem right now because she knew jeonghwa and she knew the other girls words were right. “we should all cut loose and have a little fun. and thank you, i’ve enjoyed your songs as well, mainly red and lip and hip.” both were fun, something she’d like to put out. “it looks like you’re having fun on stage.”
“i only want you to enjoy the night and the party, dance with me for a bit. honestly, it’s a party for the album and a chance for me to promote and make connections.” even now, she was focused on work.

unbeknownst to alice, she has a biological sister who just happens to also be in the industry - none other than kami from gal.actic. they’ve managed to be close, and despite alice’s lack of knowledge about their relationship, kami is among her closest friends, in and outside of the industry. she looks up to her for her independence and tendency to march to the beat of her own drum, and kami is just as fond of alice.
schedule solo - deepened recording.
it was funny how things changed as the years past.
she had a party for her first mini-album and it made sense to have another one for her first full album release. her parents rented out a place for her and kami had been in charge of pulling it all together.
which was what she wanted in the end.
a few people had been invited from the industry, once she took care of the people she really wanted there, her manager had been allowed to send out invites for others. “welcome, welcome.” kami grinned as another person walked past security and into the main hub of the party. kami herself had a drink in hand as she watched the crowds reaction to her music playing, one of her favorites from the her album.
“open bar, while i am doing a bit of self-promotion, the dj takes request and there’s a table with some food, welcome to the official celebration.”
her first album was a big deal. kami was buzzing, simply buzzing. there wasn’t really anything else she could label at this point. her first full album, it was here and it was real. and she was about to promote it. it had become a ritual at this point but kami put extra care in preparing her albums this time around, already signed with an extra thank you note.
with that out of the way, kami made her rounds behind the music show. she’d have to return to her dressing room soon but she wanted to pass out as many as she could. if doors were closed, she passed by but she did stop an idol walking down the narrow hallway. “hello!” she picked lifted one of her albums in the stack, held it out. “i’m kami.” there was the chance they didn’t know. “and this is my first full length album, i’m doing a little self-promotion.”

the track was what one would expect from this type of track.
it was what kami was looking for in a way. she had songs saved that she wanted to lose later but that's where her noona came in. giving something for kami to bounce off of without having to start from scratch. she already knew what she wanted the lyrics to say and the song had enough of the vibe. the track leaned a more mellow than she would've liked and kami wanted to make a point to change that.
it happened in various sections of the song. the opening was fine, she only extended it for a bit. before the first verse would come in, she added a few beats, making it sound just a bit heavier on the ears. in her mind, this would be the part of the concert were things really kicked up, a hype opening for the rest of the track. something that would come and go, let the flow pull the crowd in for a bit before hitting them what she thought might be the sound for her chorus.
it was the perfect interlude from her rapping to her shouting.
the verses were fine, she didn't find herself spending too much time on changing them. only small additions were made, she wanted the entire thing to sound a little more sinister than it did. more sinister samples and sounds played out in the background, fading in and out from the main base that been established. it was a hype track but she wanted it to be scary in a way as well. if she was going with such a bare instrumental, something that wasn't too dense, then a little humph needed to be added.
what had been given to her didn't have much in to offer in terms of bridge, which wasn't a big deal. she already had a stepping stone. since this part would match the opening of her lyrics, she chose to make the slight opening of over her song. she extended it for a bit but the final production wasn't that much larger. a few timed snaps were added, just to flush it out. in the end, this felt like the most sinister part of her song, even without the little samples that had been put in.
and that lead into the ending of the song, she let the instrumental play as if the song was about to end, bringing back the hype part of her song for just a moment before it really died down. things didn't end there, she had to hear it a few times before she chose this as the final product. playing around with things and tweaking until she had to force herself to stop.
now she was another step closer to her full album.
make love - partial production - 475 wc
it was simple really, that’s all kami could ask for.
there was more looking, connecting with other artist when she stumbled across the instrumental for what would be make love. she had played around with what she had been given but now, the lyrics with minjung were finished and she could happily move onto fixing up the song how she wanted. she let it play on a loop for a bit, making small notes of what she wanted to change.
and the changes came quick, not of them were huge though. just a bit in the opening, she wanted the small sound of static, as if it was coming through a radio a little unclear. and then she added another static sound, just as if the right channel had been finally found. and for a bit she didn't touch the rest, the vibe was easy and a little somber.
it was everything she wanted.
there was a small change in the chorus, she brought the beat in after the word 'baby just' instead of having it hit in the chorus right away. there was a sort of build-up there kami wanted to play around with. she worked on that section for a bit, perfecting it until she was happy with the music. leaving the chorus only to come back and add the subtle sound of claps in the background. tweaks and adjustments that helped make a great instrumental even better.
a bit of the second verse had been changed as well. before, the sound was pretty simple without anything in the background. it smoothed freely but now, she wanted to a slight sense of urgency to the sound. letting beats linger or pass by quickly. the instrumental had been beefed up just a bit, the small sounds in the background had been made a little more clear. she wanted to make the beat of someone's heart, to have them go perfectly in time. there was a balance there and kami managed to find. the second chorus had the same changes made as she worked on the song bit by bit.
it was easier to go section to section, honestly, she didn't want it to sound completely different.
the bridge had been stripped back, she took away sounds and instruments until it felt a little hazy, so her voice could cut through clearly. while small snaps were added a few beats apart. for a moment, she drove the intensity up a second, the music getting just as passionate as the clears before she cut it all out. that was all she wanted to do. now, kami went back to clean up the parts that sounded a little rough, the parts were the changes didn't come out the best, working with it until it was something she was proud to release to the public.
another song down.

the moon: partial production (444)
it was floated that she could fit in another semi-intense song on the album.
she had received half the song, in both lyrics and production. and the feel was just about right. there had been sometime between the floating of the idea, her getting parts of the song and then finally taking the steps to sit down and work on it. that was the plan today at least, on her screen she had the lyrics up and what was made of the song playing on a loop in the background.
the concept of the opening lines was something she wanted to keep. there had been a glance over the lyrics and she would add or change as she went but it was interesting. the first few lines in what would be the rap, what she would make the rap at least made her chuckle. kami made a note but it caused her to go back to a few lines and change the hook a bit.
the feel of it flowed just a bit better.
then she removed a section, having an idea of what the flow would be and what she wanted to type. the lyrics came easily, sassy in a way. was she talking to the media? was she talking to someone she knew personally? there were a few ways to take it and that's what kami loved about it.
it was cocky in a way.
but she felt like she had the right to be and the entire thing agreed with her. just a few lyrics here and there were changed to make it more her. still, a few of the original lines stayed and kami enjoyed the fact that she managed to work well with the original.
she didn't touch what she re-worked of the hook, moving onto the second verse of the song quickly enough.
most of the second verse was re-worked, not that it wasn't good but she wanted to brag and talk shit a little more. this was one of the few times her inner thoughts were okay to get out, she wanted to take the chance and it'd be a nice opening into crazy diamond. she could do it again. this was even more off a call out, a bit of a personal one but she was sure that a few people would be able to connect to it.
she chose to use the opening up to end the song, nothing had changed from start to finish. once all of the changes had been noted, kami complied everything into one and hit save. now, she'd move to work on the production and it'd be another track down.
fmdtaeyong:
“okay…” ash lets silence settle between them. “you have anything in mind already for the beat? a muffled kick drum could drive the song well for a groovy, kind of retro feel. it doesn’t really feel like we’re looking for a trap beat to go full-on with hi-hats or anything like that, not as the main percussion section, at least.” ash claps out a rough beat that falls somewhere around what kami had suggested.
“hmm, if you’re going for a more groove along vibe, though, it might not hurt to see what it’d sound like to use clapping for the percussion, but that might not sound as clean. more sound distortion, human error. could add to the vibe of the song if you want a casual feeling, but could be distracting if the instrumental is more stripped-back.”
kami took in everything he said with keen ears. “i think we’ll be able to find a balance.” she replied easily and got to work, finding the things he mentioned as she tried to pull the song together in real time. the tiring work of a producer. there was the temptation to use a real kick drum but right now, she’d use was what ready for her.
kami played with the levels for a bit, “i do like the use of clapping, it’d help it feel a bit more real. causal is the aim.” she didn’t want the song to be stuffy for anything, something simple that you could rock towards. before adding the sound of the drum, she tapped out a rough beat herself. once she found what she wanted, kami added it to the song. “i’m going to play it back for you but i want to add a little something to the start. i’m thinking some light piano or keyboard, to get something like a sparkle effect in the opening before the drum kicks in and then we move onto the claps.”
fmdminjung:
her ears take a listen, quick moves of kami’s creativity taking her words into fruition. eyes of an observer — minjung hums along, following the quick scratch of what’s been crafted. “it’s draws a picture to what i thought of in my mind.” she speaks, eyes still closed trying to flesh out any pieces still dulled.
but the track’s still a new approach, a new genre. something outside the boundaries of what she’s accustomed to. minjung takes it as a hands-on, learn by doing experience, venturing out.
“i think you can mix up different instruments for the drop — almost like a mixture of cacophony before the big drop. experiment a bit, add new filters and what not.” suggestions, and her words bridge upon uncertainty when her teeth bite down on her bottom lip. “you could also slur your words in the recording, make it grittier for full-on emphasis?”
kami nodded her head, taking down notes and playing around with the switch board as she listened to minjung. that was the best part about the creative process, seeing how much you could change at any given moment. once she was done writing, she knew to her sample sounds to play a few that might feel good.
“we could go with that, i’m thinking...just a bit of silence as the say the line that opens the beat drop.” she added that bit to what she was working on, taking the time to play with the instrumental. “the slurring of words sounds nice, i think i’ll try to make the drop a little more gritter as well.” once she was finished playing around, kami went back to the play the opening parts, along with saying the lyric. “what do you think about that?” and while she waited for the answer, her eyes went back to her notes. “i was also thinking about letting the verse be a little stripped back and then once we hit the pre-chorus, add a little rising percussion to the build up of the drop.”
being in a pre-debut group had its perks. the biggest one being the amount of free time she still had. yes she was in the dance studio every day but it was nothing new from training. she was enjoying the time she still had. the time of not being recognized in public. being able walk around without covering her face.
it was a warm day in seoul which was a rarity in the middle of summer. it seemed like the perfect day for a picnic. daiyu spent an hour after getting home from practice preparing a meal and putting it in one of her best bags. once done she made her way out the dorm to head to the park. on the way there she caught sight of a familiar face. she knew from first glance they were an idol. she approached them with a smile. “sorry to bother you, but i was wondering if you wanted to join me for a picnic.” she felt ridiculous standing there with the question hanging in the air. but it was to late to take it back and it was a good idea to start to making friends in the industry.
kami waved goodbye to her parents, watching as they walked away. she was in the area, they were in the area for a bit and they all took the chance to meet up. but they had to be on their way and kami didn’t mind staying at the park for a while longer.
until now. kami looked up from her phone she heard someone speak to her. “are you trying to kill me?” she said it blunt enough that it was hard to tell if it was a joke or not. still, it was a strange thing to be asked by someone she didn’t know, speaking of, “i wouldn’t mind, i’m free but how do we know each other?”
