One moment he's engaged in the battle of life. Not just his, not just his friends but for the fate of both human and souls alike. He uses every last ounce of strength he has, sustaining injuries that would've killer anyone else. And he takes all of three moments to rest before the next ground shattering threat comes, pushing him past his limits without proper healing.
In a moment of rest between the relentless attacks in his world, you confront him whilst healing his wounds as he lays across the gravel, remnants of what used to be a building.
"I'm just worried Ichi, I don't wanna lose you." You pleaded, trying your hardest not to resort to anger.
"I'll be fine, you have nothing to worry about." He scoffs like the arrogant and yet too selfless man he is.
"Yeah except when you die because you were already on the verge of death because of your injuries and you end up transcending whatever normal death pattern you should've had by now and utterly wear yourself out."
His tired brown eyes look up at you. He takes in the sight of you, still caring for him despite his constant failure to care for you the same way. He scoffs and looks away, ashamed of his shortcomings.
As if perfect (couldn't be worse actually) time, you both feel a spiritual presence. A familiar one but ten times stronger than ever before.
"Ichigo..." You try, knowing he's only just going to run off in the direction of the danger but your words fall on deaf ears. He's already sitting up.
"I wish you would care about your life as much as you cared about others," You shake your head and run off to go heal someone else.
Ichigo never thought he'd see the love of his life walking away from him with tears in their eyes. Much less did he think it would be because he chose to save someone's life. He had never thought about it from others point of view. He's always the hero of the story, yet he can't seem to be yours in this moment.
