“And another one bites the dust,” you stated after shooting a Stormtrooper. “Along with another ancient reference,” Kaytoo quipped. You rolled your eyes with a smirk. “I am saving your imperial ass, so it’s not like you have much room to talk.” Kaytoo matched your tone. “I might just prefer my chances without the horrible references.” You chuckled. “The only thing horrible is your taste in music. What is it again? Just a few droids speaking to each other?”

Cassian ran in front of you two, shooting some Stormtroopers you had missed. His face was focused on the mission.

“It’s great that you two are getting along,” Cassian interrupted, “but would you two mind focusing?” “Gladly,” you teased, “Anything to stop Kay’s criticism of the classics.” “Statistically speaking, what you listen to is no longer considered classics, given how long it’s been since it was created-” “Guys,” Cassian called.

Kaytoo and you shared a good-natured smirk. Silently agreeing to pick it up later, the two of you focused on helping the captain.

“If you wouldn’t mind hastening your efforts!” you called toward Jyn and Cassian.

Kaytoo, the former imperial spy, gave you an amused look. You huffed, shooting another imperial guard rushing into the room.

“What? You think these are all they have?”

Right on cue, more imperial troops were rushing toward you and Kaytoo. You were shooting as many as you possibly could, Kaytoo doing the same. He was momentarily distracted when you let out an angered grunt. He noticed you had been hit on your arm. He quickly ran the possibilities of how this could end. He gulped.

“Y/N, protect Cassian,” he told you. “What?” you snapped, making your way over to him, “I’m not leaving you!” “It’s the only way you’ll survive,” he rebutted, worry bleeding through his tone.

Gritting your teeth, you slammed a button on the control panel. The opening to where Jyn and Cassian were slammed shut. Kaytoo looked at you with shock.

“I’m not leaving you,” you muttered, shooting another trooper. He nodded. He pulled up his comm. “Run,” he told Cassian, “Y/N and I will hold them off.”

You pulled the tall man into a quick kiss as Cassian’s worried voice came over the comm. Determined, you and Kaytoo stood side by side, shooting what you could.

Despite having previous issues with the man beside you, you wouldn’t want anyone else with you.

You glared at the man with an imperial patch on his shoulder. Standing next to him was your superior, Captain Cassian Andor. The two seemed to have been long time friends, but this was the first time you were meeting him.

“Kaytoo,” Cassian greeted, “This is Y/N. Y/N, Kaytoo is a defected imperial spy. I want you to work with him to find out what’s going on.” Reluctantly, you nodded. “Yes Captain.”

Smirking, Cassian left. The former spy awkwardly stood in front of you. His eyes raked over you and your expression.

“There’s a high probability you want to kill me, isn’t there?” he asked. You couldn’t help the smirk. “Someone’s good at math,” you paused, “Come on then.”

Fortunately, you had been completely wrong about Kaytoo, or Kay as you began to call him. By the time Cassian returned for the intel, he found the two of you trading laughs and sarcastic remarks. If it was anyone else, they would’ve thought you were flirting with the new recruit. Cassian, on the other hand, just walked over with a knowing smirk. You blushed before greeting him.

He had no idea how right he was about the two of you.
