The further away they rode from Skyhold, the lighter his steps felt - like his feet could finally move to their own rhythm again. As much as he enjoyed his time at the fortress, he often felt heavier there and he couldn’t sit still. And travel was never ‘leisure’ when they were on a mission, work was work. Their journey was the closest he came to actual wandering for a quite some time.
He could finally breathe what he was meant to breathe. The sun and tree’s compelled his body to tingle with a sense of familiarity, even the leaves under his feet seemed to relax with the ease of his steps. The peace he felt was certainly helped by the company, it was nice for them to truly have a sense of freedom, or at least, the most freedom available during a time of war.

“We could make camp in the grove nearby.” He turned towards Kaaras, smile growing. “It will be about another day’s ride, correct? And you must be hungry by now.”
They didn’t have a wealth of options in the wilderness but they had some food with them and he felt a great need to cook something for Kaaras. He wanted the man to relax for once, to have no worries and as little obligations as possible. Maybe he could give Kaaras a massage too? He may just have to give him the full pampering package.
