Domestic bliss wasn’t common between Kabuto and Sayato. Their relationship hadn’t been the best. Animosity was there from the very beginning of when Sayato was brought into the scheme of things, and it was very mutual. Their spats made Karin and Suigetsu look calm and sane in comparison.

But it wasn’t unheard of either, especially as of late. Many nights in secret lairs with nothing but each other’s company, boredom, and plentiful booze got them opening up to one another about things they wouldn’t have been telling the other sober. And maybe stirring up some other feelings as well.

Sayato wasn’t the best at holding his liquor, never has been. His first time drunk was after a successful ANBU mission way back when. He thinks he was about 15 or 16. It was so many years ago, things were a blur, and he couldn’t be assed to remember his fed arc. He remembers making a complete fool of himself back then and swearing off the stuff, but after disavowing the village, he’s softened his stance on it, and even moreso since Orochimaru is far too busy for him anymore to keep being a mental distraction from how fucked his life ended up.

Kabuto on the other hand was a little better at tolerating the buzz than Sayato. Sure, his inhibitions were lowered, and sure, he was opening up about more personal matters to the guy he’s been mutually bullying since he practically got here, but he wasn’t the type to get all flirty while drunk unlike the brunette who can’t keep his hands off of the medical-nin. Granted, some of it was because he was having a hard time sitting up straight without anything else to keep him propped up. But it wasn’t like Kabuto was gonna peel Sayato away from him either. Having the former Leaf ninja resting against his chest with an arm wrapped around him was far better than fighting and arguing over pointless shit, Kabuto thought.

Sayato wasn’t fully asleep, but he definitely had that worn-out look on his face accompanied by those soft, slow blinks one gives out when they’re about to conk out. He’d probably regret everything in the morning- like he usually does. And he avoids any mentions of anything when he’s sobered up. But this unprecedented softness, this tenderness, something that he hadn’t experienced for years was something the touch-starved ninja missed. And something that he kept coming back to mentally no matter how much he tried to avoid it.

18. How are they like on a road trip together?

Presuming they had to go on a trip together because of a mission or something else of the sort, I think they'd both really enjoy being away from the unsettling vibes of whatever hideout they were holed up in/the chaos that surrounds them there.

Kabuto's gotta keep Sayato's spending habits in check because he's got the worst spending habits of all time. He WILL blow the entire trip's budget on sweets at some tourist trap if you let him.

If we're talking an actual road trip road trip with like a car and stuff in a modern AU I think this has the potential for more chaos, given that they'd be stuffed in a small confined space with one another for a super long amount of time. There is no way their music taste won't clash with one another and there will be clowning from both sides. Kabuto would be the driver here. Not that Sayato can't drive but would YOU trust that maniac to drive you? Also he knows Sayato would at some point ask for road head.

If they get lost at some point neither of them are the type who would ask for directions. Socially inept assholes, neither of whom's strengths lie within communication.

I really like the idea of them at some point or another having to pose as newlyweds or something for a mission- or getting stuck at some inn where oh no there's only one bed whatever shall we do fight over it and then end up sleeping together lol. Might write a fic along those lines one of these days.

25. Pick a physical attribute that they love about each other.

Sayato really likes Kabuto's eyes/glasses. He claims that he doesn't tease Kabuto about his glasses or vision because it's too easy of a target to, that definitely isn't the whole truth. He finds Kabuto a lot cuter with glasses on. He's definitely one of those people who thinks that eyes are the window to the soul kind of stuff, really likes eye contact.

Mouth is a very close second just because Sayato is super orally fixated lmfao.

For Kabuto, I think for him it's Sayato's height. Sayato's 5'2 which makes him really short compared to practically everyone else. Fun to tease him about, easy to pick him up and carry him for whatever reason. He can put things up on a high shelf just so Sayato can't reach to them. And with about half a foot's length between them, Kabuto really does like lording that over Sayato.

1. What were their first impressions of one another?

Sayato was a big fan of the sannin as a kid aaaand unfortunately Orochimaru just happened to be his favorite. Which was a bummer when Orochimaru ended up leaving the village and exposed for being as evil as he was.

Orochimaru, I imagine probably had been keeping his eye on Sayato in some capacity (well, moreso having Danzo and whoever else he had in the village working for/with him to feed him into on Sayato) probably around either A. The Shiori/Akio incident or B. Sayato joining ANBU.

That being said, the two didn't meet each other until Sayato (who at this point is an adult- I mean, their relationship is still toxic as shit but it wasn't like on that level of horrid.) left the village and was introduced to Orochimaru by another one of his subordinates, Sayato's rival from childhood, Satoshi. With knowing a lot about Sayato already from intel gathered Orochimaru already had the impression that Sayato was going to be an easily manipulatable mark. For Sayato, he did fall right into Orochimaru's hands, immediately becoming a sucker for plans to wreak havoc on Konoha and such. Orochimaru told him all the right things and he was charmed by him- but also very eager to work alongside him. And maybe, just maybe he was still carrying that little kiddy crush he had on Orochimaru with him that influenced that starstruck view of his ever so slightly.

4. What’s a typical Sunday like for them?

Manipulation, mind games, basically trying to exploit Sayato's want for vengeance and his need for touch/companionship. Not necessarily sexual re: touching- I just made a point to say touch since that and quality time are the two love languages I'm stuck on regarding what he'd want from a partner. But also not ruling it out entirely either.

But yeah since Sundays are kind of more or less lazy days, I expect that unless Sayato was sent off on a mission or something it's definitely a laze around and be victim to more manipulation tactics and trying desperately to use the relationship as some fucked form of escapism from his own mental thoughts!
