Hellfest 2017 Lineup Announced

Hellfest keep doing this thing where they announce a lineup that manages to be perfect every single year. There’s a reason it always sells out, and this announcement encapsulates the expert musical curation that the organisers always provide. 

Just look at it. Every line has a band that any music fan would recognise and want to see. Electric Wizard, Coroner, Baroness, Hawkwind and the Slo Burn reunion will be among the hundreds of bands blowing the three-day-old cheesy socks off everyone in the gorgeously wrought arena. 

Go to Hellfest, have fun, watch these bands with your face.

Holy Grove

Portland are keeping it weird with Holy Grove’s eponymous debut album. You can expect a 70s romp through the altars of Sabbath, with more sorcery than you can shake a crystalline staff at. 

Andrea Vidal has a powerful voice, which gives the steady stream of catchy riffs that Trent Jacobs and Greg Emley provide, a dimension not often found in regular 70s sabbath worship. Her occult lyrics are punctuated with some intense skin-pounding by Craig Bradford. 

This 7 track album starts strong, but the second song starts on some bum production that doesn’t quite sound like it should. But the rest is a testament to the powerful ears of Billy Anderson, who’s magic fingers have brushed against the riffs of Sleep’s Dopesmoker, and the untamed fury of the Melvins.
