14. things you said after you kissed me (post here x)(Literally I was not notified that I got this what the hell tumblr) So sorry this is as late as it is and thanks for sending the prompt! (Also my first thought was “Gavin calls Meg love I don’t care if you disagree fight me”)(This is also disgustingly cute and I love it and I hope you enjoy!)
He’d creeped up behind her at the office while she was on her computer working on a story for The Know. Grabbing her shoulders and spinning her around he quickly kissed her on the lips. Megs eyes widened briefly before they closed as she enjoyed the surprise. Gavin pulled back and they both smiled. “Hello Love.” “Hey Gav,” She laughed. “Now I forget what I was typing.”“Maybe you’ll remember during lunch?” He asked hopefully and Meg raised an eyebrow.“Was this all to get me to go to lunch?” Gavin’s smile grew and Meg laughed again. “Fine, but you’re paying.” She stood up as Gavin made a noise of protest, but Meg was already grabbing his hand and pulling him towards the exit.
Everything is under the read more ‘cause I just realized how long it is.
FIRST — the first two sentences of my current project
Maybe it was the fact that when he was working late on homework some nights, he’d hear the front door to their apartment slowly creak open and close, only to open again in the early hours of the morning when he was getting up. Or the fact that they lived in a penthouse with an amazing view of Los Santos when his one father was a bartender and the other was an occasional volunteer at the animal shelter (They claimed Geoff’s father had left a huge inheritance, but Ryan knew money like that would only last so long).
POV — something that’s already happened, retold from another character’s perspective
(Note: I actually haven’t written this part yet, just decided to do this ‘cause I probably won’t do his POV in the final thing)
Running the midnight shift was a real piece of shit, no action or customers, just a hell of a lot of silence and the creepy masks at the back of the shop staring at him. He hated this job, but something had to pay the bills. He only had an hour left in his shift left anyway, then Brian or whatever his name was would take over.
Then he heard the bell ring, and he slowly opened his eyes (Hey, it was almost 2 AM, it’s not like he was a vampire or some shit). “Welcome to Marvin’s Masks and Other Awesome Costumes, where we mold the new y-” The second his eyes fully opened as he rambled his intro he heard the click of a pistol and saw the gun pointed between his eyes. “Oh fuck.”
“Grab all the money you can,” The man pointing the gun said with a calm tone. “Safe, register, whatever you want. Then shove it in this bag.” Suddenly there was a bag in his arms and his head was nodding furiously.
“Yeah man, of course.” He was typing in the register code. ‘Oh fuck oh fuck oh f-’
“I think he’s taking too long Lazer.” He heard another voice say and he risked looking up to see not one, but three people now pointing guns at him. His heart rate speed up as he started throwing money into the bag. He noticed the one who’d spoken looked a hell of a lot shorter than the other two. And was that face paint?
“Maybe you should give him some more incentive James.” The man, Lazer presumably, replied. He felt his back tense even more as the register was almost emptied.
“Sure thing boss.” Suddenly a bullet flew by his ear (he heard it, oh god he heard a god damned bullet), and landed in the wall behind him. He jumped and screamed out some string of curses before tossing more bills into the bag. “Keep going asshole.” He tossed the last stack of bills into the bag.
“Ok I got it all. Just please let me go.” He heard himself almost sob. Dear lord he was so fucking scared. He felt like crying.
“Sure thing buddy, we’ll let you go.” He heard Lazer say, and he looked up only to see the third guy, who had an orange beard, re-aiming his gun. “To Hell that is.”
The last thing he heard was a bang and then his blood was on the walls.
it literally took me a second to remember what this was for and then i freaked out thank you so much i love you
FIRST — the first two sentences of my current project This is from Chapter Three of From False to Flesh btw
The first thing James noticed was that it was dark. The second thing he noticed was how much his head hurt. The third thing he noticed that there was someone trying to talk to him. “Mister? Mister are you ok?”
I gave you more than two ‘cause the first two lines are kinda’ lame

I know it’s been a while, and I’m really sorry. I've been busy with school and life and all that other fun stuff. But I’m finally here with chapter two! It’s kinda’ short but it’s important to some of the plot later on. I hope you enjoy, and please leave an ask letting me know your thoughts!

To ‘Kdin Jenzen’,
Hello. I understand that whoever is reading this isn’t actually named Kdin. Just to keep it simple, however, I will use this name. My name is James, and I have been a fan of your books for a long time. Since I was a teenager. But, with your most recent novel in the X-Ray and Vav series, the respect I had for you and your writing has diminished.
I understand you wanting to end the series and not leave any loose strings. But the brutal murder of icons that several thousands of people have idolized for years was almost like you crossed a line. Personally, the deaths of one or two of them would have been fine in my opinion. But when you killed everyone you just went overboard and took it too far.
Now Kdin, you may be asking why I wrote to you. It’s not because I want anything from you, or wanted to waste your time. I just wanted to tell you what I felt. And what I felt is that you wanted to be done with this series, and I can understand that. However, you didn’t need to slaughter everyone in your book series to achieve that.
I honestly hope you plan to write more, and I will read it when and if you do. I just hoped that, I don’t know, that this series would have a more happy ending.
Thank you for your time Mr. Jenzen
Sincerely,
James

“Hey asshole, guess what just came in the mail?”
“Surprise me.”
“A letter, from a very loyal fan named James.”
“Do you think he’s the one?”
“Of course he is. Who else would it be?”
“The lovely elderly couple in apartment 2B?”
“Shut up. Just sign the dotted line so we can get this over with.”
“Whatever you say Mom.” Pen scratching. “Now can I have my fruit snacks?”
“Fuck you.” A laugh, and then a beat of silence.
“In all seriousness, do you think this guy’s gonna’ get the job done?”
“I think so. He has everything we need.”
“Then send the script off, and give James the role of a lifetime.”
“The role meant for a king.”

If he was being honest with himself, he was hoping for a reply. James was just certain he wasn't going to get one.
He sighed, running his fingers through his brown hair. He was exhausted after working on someone’s busted computer all day. He worked in tech, doing maintenance on malfunctioning computers. While it wasn't the most interesting job in the world, at least it paid well.
After digging his keys out of his pocket and unlocking the door to his apartment, he walked into the small entry-way. He tossed his keys onto the small table he kept by his door, and took a few steps into the living area, where he fell onto his couch. He stared at the ceiling for a moment, before he found his gaze falling back towards the door. To his surprise, there was a rather large brown envelope lying there, presumably pushed through the bottom of the door. ‘That’s strange. Why didn’t it end up in my mailbox? And how the hell did it fit through the door?’ He immediately thought, but then tried to shake off the feeling of unease. ‘It was probably in Ms. Ovecheck’s, and they just slipped it through the door.’
James stood up and walked back to the door, his feet echoing in the small space. He bent down, and picked up the package, seeing no return address or postage stamp. Just his name and basic mailing info. He frowned in confusion, and headed back to the couch, ripping the envelope open as he went.
He pulled out a rather large booklet that was stapled together at the sides, and another lone piece of paper fell out and drifted onto the floor. He bent down as his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. He picked it up, his eyes immediately scanning the sentences written there.
Dear James,
You are right. While we may not be one person, we prefer to keep our identities a secret, because of reasons we won’t disclose. We understand your grief and anger over our decisions on how to end the series, and because you decided to reach out to us, and because you just seem like a nice person, we've decided to give you an opportunity.
An opportunity to re-write the story as you see fit.
We happened to have an extra draft of the final copy of the book lying around, and we figured it may ease some of your grievances. So do with the characters as you please, and change the endings as you see fit. Write everything down you change so that you actually change things, and take notes so that you remember what you've done.
But we advise that you take caution James. Don’t get too invested and forget what is real and what is fiction, for sometimes that can be the thing that drags you down and makes you into what you never wanted to be.
We wish you the best of luck.
Sincerely,
Kdin Jenzen
After he’d finished the letter, James was still a bit unsettled and found himself staring at the signature at the bottom of the page. ‘How did it get in my apartment? And why send it to me? They must get thousands of letters, right?’
Taking a bit of caution, James slowly picked the stapled papers up again, now realizing this was the other copy of X-Ray and Vav: The Reign of the Mad King that he now owned. Glancing down at the first page, his eyes immediately caught a small spelling error. They’d put ‘colour’ instead of ‘color’, and James immediately reached over and grabbed a black pen from the small end-table he had beside his couch. “May as well fix it.” James muttered as he took of the lid, and drew a small stroke through the letter ‘u’.
The second he lifted the pen off the page, he felt a burst of pain rip through his skull, and his hand began to rise so it could grab his head. Before his hand could move an inch, however, James saw his vision quickly flash white and black before his eyes rolled back and the world went dark.
Next Time- Chapter Three: A Whole New World, where James wakes up in a whole new city with only a stack of papers and a pen.

We all make choices, but in the end our choices make us
-Andrew Ryan, Bioshock (2007)
James had never been that big of a reader. Sure, he'd invested some time into a comic book or video game cheat-book every once and a while, but the thought of actually reading a novel made him shrug and refuse. His mother had never liked that, being an avid reader herself, had always pushed books in her son’s direction, only to find them in a box of things going to Goodwill when she asked him to clean his room.
One day, however, she'd dragged him along with her to the bookstore, and pointed him in the direction of the young adult fiction. She asked that he at least try and find something that he could read, then wandered over to the mystery novels. With a sigh, he dragged his feet over to the specified books, glancing over boring teen-drama titles and sappy romances. He was about to go and tell his mother he was going to wait in the car when his eyes caught a royal blue and neon green title.
X-Ray and Vav: More Than Meets the Eye
With a raised eyebrow and a quick glance to make sure his mother wasn't paying attention to him, James hesitantly pulled the book off the self. The hardcover feeling heavy in the 15-year-old’s hands, he opened the book to read the summary on the back of the cover. His eyes gazed the words, a small smile turning his lips upward.
His mother was surprised to find him twenty minutes later, sitting with his back against the bookshelf. The book was turned open to page thirty-five, just at chapter four. After almost demanding her to purchase the book for him, she agreed with a small smile on her face.
The next morning, a Monday, James came down the stairs at seven o'clock. Hugging the book to his chest and bags under his eyes, he sat down at the table to eat breakfast before he went to school. With a mouth full of Frosted Flakes, he looked his mother in the eye.
“Mom, I need to go back to the bookstore.” He said after swallowing. She raised an eyebrow.
“Why? We were just there yesterday.” James shrugged in response.
“I need the sequel.”
“Sequel? You finished the first one already?” His mother responded in awe.
“...Maybe.”
“What happened to hating reading?”
All he did was eat another spoonful of cereal and mumble something incoherent as his mother smiled. He later came home from school with the two other books in the series on his desk, and he thanked his mom profusely, even though she claimed she didn't know where they came from.
The series focused on two friends who worked for Rooster Teeth’s head gaming branch, Achievement Hunter. They spent their days with 3 other ‘grown-ups’ as they made gaming videos and goofed off all day. But when their work for the day was done, and most people went home for the night, the two instead pulled on their costumes and became the heroes of the city of Austin.
X-Ray, or Ray Narvaez Jr, was the younger of the two. With telekinesis and x-ray vision (hence the name X-Ray), a sharp trigger-finger and spot-on aim, he was essentially the eyes and ears of the duo. Trading his glasses for ones with a red-and-white spiral on the lenses (because who would guess that the guy with glasses had better eyesight that themselves?), grabbing his smoke grenades and pistol (never used, but you could never be too careful) on his black belt, and swapping out his hoodie and jeans for a green-and-black spandex suit, he could see his enemies before they’d even planned the crime. But he couldn't fly, or run super fast. He was just your average Puerto Rican male, and would never reach the scene of the crime in time. That’s where the other half of the duo came in.
Gavin Free was only a year older than Ray, but could behave like a child sometimes. Originally from Britain, he was more widely known as Vav. Light brown hair and eyes that could look either blue or brown, and a louder-than-life personality. Using the colours of the British flag in contrast to Ray’s green and black colour scheme, and equipping a bow and arrow set with real arrows, noise makers, and tranquilizer darts. Having the gift of speed, flight and slo-mo hands, Gavin had the power to beat the villain to their own crime. But without the foresight and planning that the man lacked, he found himself going to the wrong location at the wrong time.
Working together, the two found themselves fighting crime with ease, and making a fairly awesome team. They'd been doing it for years, taking down their villains with ease and a few snarky remarks tossed in. Sometimes, they'd even call in some back-up if they truly needed it. They had Michael ‘Mogar’ Jones, who had the strength of a bear and a tongue that could be compared to a whip (When he tagged along, they called themselves ‘Team Lads’), Geoffrey Ramsey, who was the oldest but certainly had the most experience and called them out on their bullshit a lot, and Jack ‘The Beard’ Pattillo, who was probably the most reasonable of the group, and hacked the security protocols to assist X-Ray and Vav.
All 5 worked at Achievement Hunter, entertaining millions. And it seemed like that’s what they'd be doing forever, solving crimes by night and gaming by day, until the final book in the series threw everything James had ever believed through a loop.
X-Ray and Vav: The Reign of the Mad King
That was the final novel’s title, and it rang true. The story’s villain was called the Mad King, and he rained havoc over the city. Kidnapping people off the streets and using them for mindless experiments only to be put in holes afterwards, or killing them for sport and amusement. He called his victims Edgars, and had his henchmen walk around with cow-heads concealing their faces. Along with a new villain, there was a new employee in Achievement Hunter.
His name was Ryan Haywood, and was gifted with a cunning and scientific brain. Later discovered to have the powers of foresight and telekinesis, it seemed like between the novels he’d grown close to the heroes. Saying several months had passed since they defeated Flynt Coal (their last major adversary), Ryan was still new but well known to the members of Achievement Hunter.
The book had started off like usual, new villain, they gotta’ go fight him, yeah yeah, but then it had taken a more… dark turn and James wasn't ok with how it ended.
One morning, after a battle with one of the Mad King’s lackey’s the night before, Gavin and Ray walked into the office early to get some editing done, only to find Jack’s body covered in knife slices and a message from the Mad King himself carved into his arm.
“You're fools to think you can win against me. Surrender now and I'll consider sparing your lives.
-The Mad King”
Suddenly, the hopeful and energetic Achievement Hunter’s lacked the energy and positivity they'd had, and they now found themselves burying one of their best friends. Ray tried to get Gavin to pull out, and leave the Mad King be. He argued that they'd already lost one friend, they didn't need to lose anymore. Gavin had only gotten more determined to continue at that.
“But imagine everyone else who could get hurt Ray! We started this, and we'll finish it too. For Jack.” The Brit had almost pleaded, and Ray gave in.
Next had been the fall of the Mighty Mogar. Michael had been missing for a few days, and the dynamic duo had heard that someone was terrorizing the downtown area of Austin. So X-Ray and Vav had immediately jumped into the action, getting to the area in mere minutes. But when they’d seen their friend throwing telephone poles and destroying cars, they felt sick. Ray realized immediately that this was the Mad King working against them, trying to throw them off their game. The two tried to reason with Michael, but he rambled on in the angry tone he was famous for that he was tired of being the “third wheel” and that he was far stronger than the two of them, so why did X-Ray and Vav get all the attention? As Gavin tried to get his friend to surrender one last time, Mogar looked at them with a blue-eyed glare and a smirk that clearly wasn't his own.
“The time of Team Lads is over boys. It’s Mogar time.”
The three fought for a long time. Both Gavin and Ray were just about finished when Gavin fooled Michael into dropping a pole on himself, the pole going straight through his chest. Due to the blow, in his final moments, they had the fortune of getting their brown-eyed friend back. Before he said goodbye, he told them to find Lindsay, she would be able to help them, and then gave them the location of the Mad King’s lab. Underneath Warehouse 636.
After Ray managed to drag Gavin and himself away from their fellow Lad’s corpse, they headed back to the office, only to find Ryan missing, Geoff hanging from the ceiling, and another message written in his blood on the neon green walls.
“I warned you. I hold your friend captive at my lab, and I can’t wait for us to be acquainted. You have 24 hours.
-The Mad King”
Gavin had snapped. He’d fallen to the floor, a mess of gibberish and sobs as he cried for his friends that felt like family. Ray had cried too, and comforted his friend. “We'll get him Vav. Trust me, we'll get him.”
Gavin had looked into his friends eyes, his own blood-shot and puffy. “He needs to pay Ray. He will pay.” He’d growled.
Assuming Ryan had been taken by the crazed ruler, the two then flew to Michael and Lindsay’s apartment. It was no secret who Lindsay was, an editor and occasional appearance in videos, and Michael’s wife. They’d told her the news, and she’d collapsed into Ray’s shoulder, tears falling from her eyes. After a few moments and letting Lindsay calm down as best she could, they asked for her assistance, telling her that Michael said she could. Lindsay nodded, and told them to step back for a moment. The two were confused for a moment, before they saw a fireball appear in the red head’s hand. Gavin had screamed while Ray made an impressed noise.
They suited up, and drove to Warehouse 636, all with a feeling of unease. They all knew it shouldn’t have been this easy, as they drove up the dusty dirt road and walked into the abandoned space. The trio knew that the Mad King had something up his sleeve. Something that seemed to stir in the air and sent chills down their spines as they opened the doors.
And when they stumbled into, after wandering through a rather large laboratory where all of the subjects were in cages installed in the floor, a room with a large gold throne atop of a small platform, with blood-red fabric draped over the middle and a small black-wood table that had a stack of stapled papers lying on top.
The trio immediately spotted a shadow seated on the throne, and he stood after they entered. He slowly clapped, taking a few steps forward into the light, where the remaining Achievement Hunters realized the Mad King, dressed in a dress-shirt, silver tie and kilt, with a gold crown upon his head, was none other than Ryan Haywood himself.
Gavin had not held back, letting loose a string of profanities and British babble, cursing Ryan for taking away what he had considered his family. Ryan had killed his own comrades, just to hurt the duo personally, and now he just stared with a grin on his face.
Lindsay had yelled out a loud ‘’Fuck you!” (James had never been surprised at the language surprisingly, even if it was a Young Adult book series; they swore all the time.), for when Ryan began to work for Achievement Hunter, the Rooster Teeth Crew had been at another location where Ryan and Lindsay had worked at the same desk, and had grown quite close. Also, he essentially killed her husband, adding fuel to the fire.
Only Ray stayed silent, staring at the man with several emotions playing out in his eyes. Betrayal, pain, confusion… and a bit of guilt and understanding that the author never seemed to fully explain.
Ryan had only smirked down on the grief-filled hearts below him as they reacted to his betrayal. When Gavin had finally calmed down enough to yell up at him and ask him what the “bloody hell he was waiting for,” It seemed as though their friend-turned-foes smirk grew.
“I’ve been waiting for you to say that all day.”
Suddenly, the ground beneath the heroes had begun to shake, throwing them onto their knees, and the doors behind Ryan swung open. "Kneel before the King." Ryan commanded as the large beast, just over 11 feet tall, roared. Ray stared at the monster, taking in its bull-like features and brown fur with white splotches, and turned his head upward to look at Ryan, his face almost annoyed.
"Really? You had to take Edgar out of the hole, didn't you?"
"What can I say, I'm a man of theatrics." Ryan had replied calmly. "Now, attack."
Edgar had immediately roared out in response, and went around the throne to attack the trio.
The fight stretched on for what seemed like hours, the trio getting more and more fatigued as it went on as Ryan watched with his emotionless gaze. Gavin lost his right hand early on, trying to slow the beast ‘s movements only to have it slashed off while he focused. Ray was thrown against a wall, having his glasses knocked off of his face and the wind knocked out of his lungs. As he searched for the only way he could see as he wheezed, Lindsay attacked the Minotaur-esque creature with as much fire as she could conjure. Edgar’s fur finally caught aflame, and sent the beast burning to the ground with a cry that could only sound like a deep distressed moo. After it fell to the ground, it then exploded, the flames cutting it close to Lindsay and burning her leg, causing her to limp slightly.
The heroes struggled to their feet, Lindsay snatching up Ray’s glasses and giving them to him. Ray immediately saw his partner struggling to stand, tears in his eyes as he stared at the blood oozing from his newly-formed stump, and raced to his side. He let Gavin put his weight on him as he pulled the Brit back to his feet. Ryan stared on, his face still stoney as he watched. Ray glared at the older man as he watched, and whispered coldly. “What now asshole?”
“Glad you asked.” Ryan replied, his eyes meeting Rays. “But before we begin to talk, I need you to be still for this, so that you don't do anything you regret.”
“Wha-” Gavin began to sputter, but before he could finish he felt a cold blade on his neck and a hand gripping his remaining wrist. As Ray and Lindsay (who was across the room still) felt the same thing happening to them, Gavin’s gaze moved down to his wrist where he caught sight of a tattooed hand that looked very familiar. His eyes widened, and he looked at Ray, swallowing the boulder that had appeared in his throat. “Ray.”
“What Gav-” Ray turned his gaze toward the Brit, but froze when he saw his former boss staring forward at Ryan, bright blue eyes dull and void of life. He realized that Jack was the one holding him, because he felt a beard tickling the back of his neck as he breathed. Finally, he turned to Lindsay and watched the slow realization that she'd gotten her wish of having her husband hold her in his arms again, though this time it probably wasn't the way she wanted.
“You son of a bitch Ryan.” Lindsay cried, and Gavin coughed out something that sounded like a squawk , sob, and a swear mixed together. Ray just stared, his eyes welling up. He forced himself to calm down when he felt a tear slip down his face, telling himself that he could cry later when this was all said and done.
“Hey, at least they’re not dead anymore, that’s a plus.” Ryan smirked and continued. “But as I said, we really need to talk.” He went on to explain how he’d re-animated their corpses and used some device in their chests to drug and command them. Then he demanded an apology, which confused the heroes. When not given what he wanted, he had Michael snap Lindsay’s neck. Both heroes tried to fight back, to try and help their friend, but it was useless. As the redhead crumpled to the ground, Ryan gave the eldest lad his brain back for the briefest of moments, and let him cry over his wife’s corpse. Before Ryan had the chance to take his control back, Michael turned and looked at his friends.
“Kill him.” Michael whispered as his eyes turned from brown to blue once again.
“You see? This is what happens when heroes can’t climb back up their pedestals.” Ryan said, as he made a tsk noise with his tongue. “More innocents die.”
“More?” Ray asked aloud. As Gavin yelled back something that Ray ignored, he remembered something. “This isn’t about him is it?”
“Of course it is, what else would it be?” Ryan scoffed as if it’d been that obvious the whole time.
“He was a threat! He was a henchman for another villain at one point and time!”
“So what? People can change!” Ryan glared. “Just like you have.”
Ryan then did the unthinkable. He pulled out a pistol, and shot Gavin in the head. Watching Ray cry out and try to reach his friends body, Ryan smiled.
“It’s time for you to realize that not all heroes get happy endings.” He paused for a moment, a wave of grief flashing through his eyes. “I sure as hell didn’t.” He pulled the trigger, and Ray fell to the floor. With X-Ray and Vav dead, the Mad King had no other purpose in his life. Ryan Haywood went out with a bang, blowing up his warehouse and everyone inside.
That’s where the novel ended.
James was stunned. He’d grown up with these characters, been a fan since he’d first picked up the novel when he was 15. Now, 18 years later, seeing it end in such a depressing way left him almost unsettled. James looked down at the book in his hands, looking at the black plastic shine. ‘They deserve a better ending.’ He realized, and a thought popped into his head.
Picking up his laptop, he quickly scavenged the internet for the author’s address. James knew that his alias was under the name Kdin Jensen, but in all actuality the author was two people under one name. Surprisingly, he found what he was looking for rather quickly, and he quickly copied the numbers onto a piece of paper.
Then, grabbing a pen, James began scribbling words down as he went on about how he felt the ending hadn’t done the book justice, and that he felt that the ending should be revised. After about a page of spewing out the same point over and over again (James felt like he was writing an essay in school), he finally felt like he’d made a convincing point to the authors. He wasn’t expecting any sort of response, he just wanted his voice to be heard.
So he sent it off in the mail and waited.
Next Time- Chapter Two: Putting Pen to Paper, where the authors receive James’s letter, and James receives the chance of a lifetime.
