Downworlder Week - Day 6 - Favourite Downworlder Ships
Kaelie makes a lot of flower crowns and Elliott always wears them
Elliott’s room is a mess that’s just accumulated over the decades. Very few people dare to go in it. Kaelie is one of the ones brave enough to do it, and she’s also the only person capable of actually finding anything in his room
Kaelie has been known to spit in the food of anyone who has upset Elliott in some way if they come into Taki’s
Kaelie takes Elliott’s dogs for a walk during the day when Elliott can’t leave the Hotel
When Kaelie works night shifts at Taki’s, Elliott waits for her to finish and gives her a lift home (or to a party depending on what time it is) on his motorbike
Elliott is usually to hyperactive or distracted to sit and watch an entire movie, so when Kaelie wants a movie night she left Elliott play with her hair so he can watch the movie but he has something else to keep him busy. After a few years of this, Elliott has gotten really good at styling hair
Living la dolce vita
Life couldn’t get much sweeter
Don’t you give me a reason
That it’s not the right season
Babe, I love you a lot
I’ll give you all I’ve got
Yeah, you know that it’s true
I’ve been saving all my summers for you
I’ve been saving all my summers for you
Like fruit, like fruit
Hi! I don’t have any for faeries in general, but I do have some for Kaelie Whitewillow! (Also some kaelliott, sorry not sorry)
Pansexual
Looks like a cinnamon roll but could actually kill you
No one is ever sure if she has nixie blood or pixie blood, usually referring to her as either one or the other, not realising she is in fact half-nixie, half-pixie
Because she’s half-pixie she’s not as small as full-blooded pixies but she is short, a fact people will severely regret if they point it out
She’s much more integrated into the Shadow World than most of the fey are, dividing her life between serving the Seelie Queen. working as a waitress, and her social life
She makes almost all of her own clothes, often sewing in real flowers which means she can usually only wear each one once before the flowers die and she has to make new ones
Loves partying (obvs usually with Elliott)
Because they’re both immortal/have extremely long lifespans, she and Elliott kinda naturally drift in and out of their relationship. They know the other is always there to go back to and that if they want they can be single for a while or date someone else. Kaelie has a lot of previous romantic and sexual relationships (including one with Jace) that she always eventually moves on from, no hard feelings no matter what happened in the relationship
Admittedly, she never takes any of those relationships seriously, because she knows she will go back to Elliott after a while. She makes sure whoever she dates is aware of that before they agree to date her
If someone asked why it was always Elliott she went back to, she wouldn’t even have an answer. She just knows that being with Elliott isn’t like being with anyone else, and even though he’s an idiot and sometimes really annoys her, no one else has ever made her as happy as he does
She loves spontaneity and pretty much every second with Elliott is spontaneous and unpredictable
She’s constantly torn between exasperation at the stupid things Elliott does and actively encouraging him (she knows he will never turn down a dare and finds it hilarious to dare him to do ridiculous shit)
She used to mostly avoid vampires before meeting Elliott, and now she’s closer to them than any other Downworlder (not including other Fair Folk)
Although she does share the Fair Folk’s scorn of warlocks for selling their magic, she does have a tenuous friendship with Magnus Bane. It’s built mostly on sarcasm (like most of Magnus’ relationships), but they’re both willing to come through for each other if needed (like Magnus being the only one to try to defend Kaelie during the Seelie Court’s trial after the war)
Became close friends with Helen Blackthorn after the war, because they defended each after being put on trial for things that were beyond their control
Kaelie danced for a long time, feeling the stress of work slipping away. When she was too exhausted to keep going, she slumped down into an armchair and closed her eyes.
‘You’re a really good dancer.’
She opened her eyes again.
Elliott sat in the armchair opposite her. There was a glass of blood in his hand and a smile on his face and he leaned forwards in his chair, as if in the middle of an extremely fascinating conversation with someone.
‘Thank you.’
‘You look very pretty.’
‘Thank you.’
‘I like your dress.’
‘Are you just throwing out compliments at random?’
Please enjoy this fic about a crack ship I created and accidently became trash for.
Kaelie meets an annoying vampire who turns out to be less annoying than she expected
It was her very first week on the job and Kaelie was already sick of it. Taki’s was busy twenty-four seven, and with Shadowhunters and every Downworlder species imaginable crammed into one place it wasn’t a normal day unless there was at least one fight. Then there were the customers. The loud ones, the rude ones, the ones who complained about everything, the ones who gave her ‘compliments’.
She’d been warned already. ‘Don’t yell at the customers, Kaelie.’ ‘The customers are always right, Kaelie.’ But the way things were going, she didn’t expect to last in this job much longer.
‘Table six, Kaelie,’ her co-worker, a werewolf boy just recently Turned although you’d never guess it, said as he rushed past with a tray full of empty plates.
Kaelie frowned. Table six was supposed to be his area. When she glanced over she figured out why he didn’t want to take it. There were three vampires at the table and – Kaelie groaned – they were obnoxiously loud.
She forced on her best fake smile and approached the table, notepad and pen at the ready.
‘Ready to order?’ she asked.
The three vampires broke away from their conversation. Two of them glared at her as though she’d interrupted something private. The third gave her an appreciative glance that she was not sure she liked anymore than the glares. She braced herself for him to say something rude, but instead he smiled. It was a wide, genuine smile, obviously meant to be a winning smile but marred slightly by the presence of vampire fangs. He didn’t take his eyes off her while she jotted down the orders and she was sure she could still feel his eyes on her as she walked away.
She handed the sheet with the vampires’ orders on it over the counter to the chef.
She thought little of them again while she took other orders and cleared tables. But when the vampires’ orders were ready, she placed the tray down on the table, unloaded three large glasses of blood, gave them a professional smile and began to walk away. Then she heard them talking about her.
‘Just ask her out,’ one of the vampires hiss behind her.
Her heart sank.
‘No!’
‘Why not? You obviously like her.’
‘Doesn’t mean she likes me. Come on, just let her do her job and don’t bother her.’
It definitely wasn’t what she expected. Under the pretence of wiping down a nearby table, Kaelie glanced back over at the vampires. She looked just in time to see the boy who had been watching her earlier quickly look away. One of the others smirked.
Kaelie straightened up and went over to the counter where the werewolf chef took and filled orders. She leaned over it to get his attention.
‘Do you know those vampires?’ she asked, indicating the vampires’ table without looking.
The chef glanced over at them and grinned. ‘You got an admirer, Whitewillow.’
‘Is he still watching me? The one with the dreadlocks?’
‘Yep.’
‘Do you know him?’
He grinned. ‘Most of New York Downworld knows Elliott, Whitewillow. Where you been living?’
‘Why?’
‘Gets himself into a lot of trouble,’ he shrugged. ‘Nice boy though. Not much common sense, but very friendly. Goes to nearly every party you can find.’
Kaelie peered over her shoulder. This time the boy, Elliott, didn’t look away, but he did give her a guilty smile. She wondered if his vampire hearing was powerful enough to have heard her conversation all the way over here over the top of the noise from the rest of the diner.
She gave him a brief smile and then turned back to the chef.
‘He definitely likes you.’ He took one of the new orders and wandered back into the kitchen.
‘What’s wrong with Magnus’ parties?’ Kaelie asked, admiring her reflection in the pond that led to the Seelie Court.
‘Nothing,’ Meliorn shrugged. ‘But I hear this one is specifically catering towards those without a heartbeat.’
‘You mean vampires.’
‘Precisely.’
‘Well I’m bored and I want to have fun. Taki’s is stressing me out and I want to relax.’
‘Amongst vampires?’
Kaelie ran her fingers through her long, blonde hair, fluffing it up. She shrugged. ‘I’m not picky.’ She threw a small wave in Meliorn’s direction before turning away from the pond and making her way across the park.
Vampire motorbikes were lined up outside Magnus’ building, bathed in the glow of the moon and the lights streaming from Magnus’ windows. She could hear pounding music already and excitement flooded through her the way it always did when she was about to enter a party or a nightclub. She hurried inside and bounded up the rickety stairs. The door to Magnus’ loft was standing open. There were vampires lounging in the corridor, drinking blood mixed with some kind of alcohol. Kaelie glanced at them long enough to ascertain none of them was Elliott. Not that she was looking for him, of course.
She entered the loft.
‘Kaelie Whitewillow. What brings you here?’ Magnus approached her, a glass in his hand, one eyebrow raised in curiosity. ‘Last time I checked, you were a faerie. Not a vampire.’
‘How often do you check?’ Kaelie asked.
Magnus didn’t smile but there was an expression of amusement in his eyes. He clicked his fingers and a second glass appeared in his hand. He held it out to her.
‘Remember that I am not responsible if any of my other guests decide they want a bite of faerie.’
‘They’re idiots if they try, I’m still half demon. My blood’s not good for them. Besides—’ she took the drink from Magnus ‘—I’d like to see them try.’
Magnus really did smile this time. ‘I’ve always liked you.’ He raised his glass to her, sipped it, and then walked away.
‘Kinda. I mean them though.’
Kaelie looked at him for a moment, trying to gauge his sincerity. He smiled a little more under her scrutiny and she allowed herself to smile back. He was quite cute really. His smile lit up his eyes and she didn’t think she’d ever met a vampire who could look so approachable even with their fangs out.
‘Kaelie,’ she said.
‘Elliott. You served me at Taki’s today.’
‘I remember.’
‘You do?’ He seemed genuinely surprised and it was a moment before Kaelie realised the implications of what she’d said. He was pointing out that he’d noticed her, and she was telling him she’d noticed him too. She thought about hurriedly explaining what she had meant, and then decided she didn’t mind if he got the wrong impression. She didn’t even know if it was the wrong impression. Hadn’t she been looking for him earlier? Hadn’t she, in all honesty, come here tonight hoping to run into him?
‘You were very sweet at the diner,’ Kaelie said. ‘I heard you talking to your friends, telling them to leave me alone when they were saying you should ask me out.’
‘Oh! I just... I thought you’d probably be... I didn’t want to bother you.’ He seemed suddenly flustered.
She giggled. ‘I wouldn’t have appreciated it then, no.’
‘“Then”?’
She shrugged. ‘You seem like a nice guy. I wouldn’t think you were just being offensive if you did it now.’
Elliott, if possible, smiled wider and looked down at the floor, as if shy. Almost every movement he made was endearing, and Kaelie found she didn’t mind in the slightest that she actually sort of liked him.
‘Can I...give you a lift home?’ Elliott asked, looking back up at her and speaking as though he was asking if he could kiss her rather than just take her home.
‘How drunk are you?’
‘Not very!’ he said, raising his glass as if to somehow prove his point but accidentally slopping his drink onto the floor instead. They both looked down at the blood staining Magnus’ expensive carpet, and then Elliott said, ‘Not again.’
‘You’ve done that before?’
‘Magnus threatened to pull my fangs out if I spilled blood on his furniture one more time.’
‘If we leave now, he’ll never know it was you.’
Elliott stared at her, and then a mischievous smile spread slowly across his lips. He swallowed the remainder of his drink, put his empty glass down, stood up and then held his hand out for Kaelie. She took it without hesitating, letting Elliott pull her to her feet.
Still holding hands, they pushed their way through the crowd and out into the hallway. Several vampires called amiably after Elliott and he called back in response. Some of them made comments about him and Kaelie and, again, Kaelie found she didn’t mind all that much.
He swayed a little as they descended the stairs.
‘No way am I letting you drive,’ Kaelie said.
‘It’s a flying motorbike!’ Elliott protested. ‘It’s not like I’m going to kill any pedestrians or anything.’
‘You might fall off it though,’ Kaelie said. ‘You’re wasted, you probably won’t even remember me tomorrow night.’
‘I will definitely remember you.’
They left the building and Elliott tried heading for the motorbikes, but Kaelie held his hand tighter and tugged him away from them.
‘Come on, idiot,’ she said. ‘I’m walking you home.’
