You can't really win--either you don't buy it and it hurts the chances of more of the vita stuff coming over, or you buy it and say "Yeah, I'm cool with no dubs" (and what appears, so far, as 'half-assed localizations')

You're completely right; there's really no way to get this across to Bamco, because if you don't buy it, they're just going to interpret it as "oh, they don't want anymore Vita Tales games" instead of the intended "oh, they're not okay with this localization". So that's why I'm annoyed with the "I'm just not gonna buy this" approach.

Because, I can definitely understand being upset with half-assed localizations (even if most of the bad stuff (which was mostly a few instances of emotional tone not matching the original context iirc) we saw was early on and hopefully got adjusted (the lack of victory skit subtiltles was addressed later on, for example)), and thus not wanting to buy the product. I can't force anyone to buy a product, especially if they've already lost interest. But, at the same time, this is a game that I really want to succeed, and I'm upset with how it's been handled.

I just. Wish that Bamco wouldn't have fucked up in the first place. I want Hearts to succeed because I love Hearts, I'd also like a shot at seeing Innocence come over too, and most importantly if they try and put Legendia on the Vita as well I'd definitely want that (well, I don't want Legendia being remade by the R team period because that means keeping random encounters & no multiplayer (things that made me sad about the original), but I digress).

That said, I would like to emphasize that a lack of a dub is NOT a sign of inferior translation quality. Dubs are expensive as hell, so when a decision is made to not dub something, it's usually because they're not confident in the product's ability to sell well and they want to minimize profit losses. I'm sick of people using this as evidence for half-assing a product when not only is it not proper evidence, but when we already have some proper evidence (another example: why didn't they change "Kor"'s name back to something that actually matches the spoken dialogue audio?? if it was bc of the shingles thing they could have tried something else; ex: the ToHDS guy suggested spelling his name as Xing, which would be pronounced the same way and if I can find the post I'll link you bc it has the explanation as to why)

I get saying “ugh I hate X group” in frustration—but I see soooo many posts encouraging harassment, abuse, and general shitty treatment of people for being born as X group even if they didn’t do anything to deserve that treatment. ITS NOT THE SAME.

Tumblr speaks for "fair treatment" of the group that's been oppressed or unliked, and in return, they act as though people born in the standards are wrong and should apologize.

And what bothers me the most is when you try to remind them that social anxiety is a thing to some people, they always respond with scathingly harsh things about how social anxiety is bullshit because they decided it was so. At this point I just stop trying to talk to those people. Ugh...
