he would probably ask the wrong person (hinata) about why his heart beats faster and his palms sweat excessively around you
he would absolutely NOT say that it’s you though lmao
hinata asked if he was sick and he didn’t ask anyone about the topic for a while, thinking maybe he was sick
until there’s some assigned reading and he reads some of his “symptoms” in the story
he goes to sugawara this time to ask questions
“i think i have a crush on someone,” he’d say.
sugawara would grin excitedly, ready to tease him, “who?”
“um... well... i don’t really know if it’s okay for me to have a crush on... the person...”
“whoever it is, you like them, right?”
he’d nod
“then it’s okay. if you have feelings for someone, i don’t see why there would be anything wrong with it. who is it?”
“y/n.”
“i knew it. you’ve been awkward around him since we met him. more so than usual.”
“what do i do?”
“well, do you want to date him?”
“...yes...”
“then tell him you like him! if he likes you back, ask him to go on a date!”
he took this advice very seriously
but every time he’d see you he’d get really nervous
nervousness was kind of a new feeling to him
he’s just so confident in himself that he never considered he might be nervous
one day you’re talking to him about some assignment that was stressing you out and he just got so focused on the sound of your voice that he forgot to listen to the words you were saying
until you said, “i like when no math is involved.”
and he didn’t even think before he said, “I like when you’re involved.”

you considered your next statement for a little as his ears turned red, nervous about your silence
“I like you,” you tried to sound casual
he whipped around so fast his neck popped
“I like you, too,” he said, face really serious

“oh. cool.”
“do you want to go on a date?” he remembered sugawara’s advice at the last second
“yeah, that sounds nice
