Georgia: the country of life
After spending five days in the heart of Georgia and beyond I’m here to share my memories.
I came there by car, so the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was Kazbegi mountains. In a few kilometers away from Russian border there was a monument called Friendship Gates. It was full of murals, mosaics and travelers from all over the world. You know, there are 14 countries behind my back and I surely say that Georgian landscapes are the most beautiful nature creations I’ve ever seen in my life. I would tell you lots of amazing words about it, but in any event they couldn’t describe how unforgettable and spectacular was my road through that mountain system. The only way to feel the gorgeousness is to see it by your own eyes. Now try to imagine the view, add some fog and low clouds. Yes, perfect.
Chapter two in my trip is dedicated to Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. I lived in old district and I was impressed by that atmosphere. There were market, square and big church next to my guest house. I visited all those places, but the first destination was historical part of Tbilisi. It’s located on a hill and you can get there by ropeway. Tbilisi looks very pretty from above! Also there was a fortress, it used to protect the city in medieval times. Speaking about atmosphere again, my favorite moment in the capital was evening walk during which I got lost and I found myself on a random street in that historical district. Houses were so beautiful under the light of lanterns, narrow street was quit and only children’s voices filled the silence with unique language. What a romance!
Our next stop was Kaheti – warm region of Georgia which is famous for its wine. I visited some cute towns and after that on my way to an old fortress I fell asleep. I woke up when the building was reached. I entered it and I felt like a torture queen while exploring every corner of that big wonderland made of stone. Everybody was about to leave, but I noticed one more tiny room. Not all were able to get into because of their height, so being short is not always a bad thing! I stood alone, I touched the ceiling, I was looking at surroundings through the small window and I felt like there’s no one in this world besides me. And this is a sense of traveling: go and take every adventure that can make you happy, that can make you remember it as a special one for the rest of your life.
The grand final of my trip took place in Mtskheta. This town has been the capital for many years. Mtskheta is a home of spirit. I was in a few Georgian orthodox churches, I saw ruins of some and as a believer I felt the way those places affect me, make me think about God and good things that happened in my life, about changes I need to become a better person.
In the end I will tell you about one building in Tbilisi – Peace Bridge, it connects historical and modern parts of the city. Georgian ex-president once said that this bridge is a symbol of the road to the bright future. Bridge usually shines with national flag colors in evening. I was sitting next to it and I saw a little girl who held her father’s hand. They were about to cross the bridge and I thought: «In which Georgia this baby will grow up? In which she will live her adult life? And in which she will get old?» I really hope Georgian land will stay peaceful, hospitable, friendly and safe. May the future of that baby girl I met and many other kids will shine as bright and proud as Peace Bridge at summer nights.
