The bar was quiet as ever, still too early for the crowds but just about late enough to drink and it be acceptable. Just how Kai liked it.
It had become a habit of hers to wander over here, waiting for her friend to finish up her training and needing to blow off steam. That was the true advantage of it still being quiet in here, they could still hear one another bitching about everyone who had pissed them off that week.
For a few hours every week, they would get lost in their drinks, lost in laughter. Tears in their eyes from being unable to breath. Red faced and ruined makeup streaked their eyes as the barstaff rolled their eyes and questioned if another round was really such a good idea.
Kai had entered the bar again today, barely remembering how she had even gotten here. Her body had been in auto-pilot for the past few days, ever since the Dawnspire.
Last she remembered she had been in for her checkup with the healers, they’d wanted to make sure there wasn’t going to be any long lasting effects from the demons influence and Kai had been less than happy to go. She was, as she was so painfully reminded every morning as she gazed into the mirror, untouched.
Eyes forward she’d entered the sanctum, refusing to look at the rows of beds that lined the hall. White sheets pulled up to the chins of those who would never be the same again.
“Still not sleeping?” the healer had asked as she checked over the tremors in Kais hand. The elf shook her head once, steel faced and tight lipped. She didn’t belong here.
She turned to leave, a flash of red curls caught her eye from one of the beds.
Next she knew was was doubled over in an alleyway, the contents of her stomach staining the wall. How had she gotten here…?
Next moment, the bar.
“The usual?”
She nodded slowly at the barkeep, her eyes focused on the shallow scratches cut into the wooden counter.
Two glasses appeared in front of her, the stool to her left never having been more painfully empty.
The barkeep saw Kais face stained with tears for yet another consecutive week, but it was not from laughter this time around.
