This picture makes me feel cold. Brr!
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes. Bruce sometimes thinks back to where he was a few months ago. Still a bit angry, but less volatile. But more than anything, lost. New York was a far cry from India. He wasn’t ready to go back to the sort of life he once had and so much had happened since he came back. He’d lost control so many times and then he met his best friend. The one who would find him and bring him jackets and blankets and stay there with him, waiting for him to wake up. Bruce wouldn’t admit it, but he appreciated that more than anything. It meant someone cared enough to stay and wait for him and be there when he woke up so he would know everything’s okay. Even for a moment, just seeing her there would calm him down. For that small moment, he didn’t have to worry about how much damage he caused, it was just him and his best friend. When they found out she was pregnant, he made a promise to himself that he wouldn’t lose control, that he would take care of her and be there for her. It wasn’t about the debt he felt like he owed her for his life anymore, but because he didn’t want her to feel alone. He wanted to be there for her the same way she had been there for him. She had done so much for him and he wasn’t going to let her go. So when he lost control, no matter the reason, he would always find her, a bit worn and sore, and in those times, he would wrap his arms around her, helpless, and murmur how sorry he was. She was always there with a blanket to wrap around his shoulders. And then she would wrap her arms around him and in a way it would heal him. Fix the broken mess that he was, even for a moment. She was always there, knitting together his heartstrings, even when she knew they would just fall apart again. Bruce would never really be whole again. Never quite happy, or less of a mess. But he had one singular hope in this world, and it’s name was Kairo. Always Kairo.
All This And Heaven Too... || Kairo & Bruce || Drabble
It's funny how everything lovely that happens to Bruce always has something green associated with it. Like the universe or whatever Higher Power up there is mocking him. But... Perhaps it's not so, he thinks, sometimes.
She's everything he has ever wanted and more. So, so much more. She's filled the hole in his heart and given him more chances than he deserves. And her name, heavens, her name. For the longest time he couldn't bring himself to say it, and truth be told, he still can't.
Hi'raikairo, Hi'raikairo, Hi'raikairo...
Like the greatest blessing, or perhaps an uttered prayer of thanks... Her name was something sacred and no matter how much he wanted to, he couldn't bring himself to say her whole name. Always "Kairo", or sometimes, "Hi'rai," but never the whole. As if, once her name was uttered, everything proper and right in the world would shift. And perhaps they would. The trees, the plants, everything green would just... Shift in response to the Guardian's name.
There it is again, green.
Green like the plants and green like the mint green he always associated with her feelings of pleasure that floated through the bond in soft little waves. But also green like her eyes, those always level, serious eyes that had smiled and laughed with him and woken him up every morning. And suddenly, it's college again and he's reading The Merchant of Venice...
One half of me is yours, the other half yours Mine own, I would say; but if mine, then yours, And so all yours.
And he takes heart in the fact that he's all hers because his love for her is a pearl white and gamma green. And he wouldn't have it any other way...
