Hurricane - Kaiden & Teresa
The night was alive. It was a living, breathing, pulsating thing in the way that the thunder rolled and the lightening flashed. The trees bowed beneath the wind and the rain that pelted against the windows of her otherwise immaculate house, sounded like bullets threatening to pierce through the veil of every shield and barrier that she had ever, in the entirety of her life, managed to erect and retain. Sam was here. Sam was in Haven Hollow. Even after seeing him, feeling him, knowing the reality of him, there was still a part of Teresa that was convinced that none of this was real. That maybe somewhere in between it all she had somehow slipped back into Hell and this was what everything that she had ever deserved and then some. But this was worse than Hell. Because even as much as she truly hated Sam, he was still the closest thing to Heaven that she would ever come. And in all of that and more, Teresa had never been so terrified of anything in the entirety of her life.
Turning her head at the sound of her phone ringing for the 5th time in the past twenty minutes, Teresa shifted against her window sill and caught the glimpse of a name glaring white against the black screen. Kaiden. Above the name she could see the picture of his face silhouetted against the neon lights of the bar at the Dungeon. She couldn’t remember where she’d gotten the picture from, nor could she remember when she had set it but all at once she could feel her insides coiling at the sight of him and she had to turn away. A weariness unlike anything that she had ever felt before had taken hold of her physically and mentally and ever since she’d seen Sam the night before, she had been stuck in this feeling of perpetual absentness. It was like the part of her that was missing had suddenly become more pronounced with his return, and the hallow hole where her soul had once resided, where her humanity had once been, was aching for the return of something that she would never feel again. Love.
Closing her eyes, Teresa pressed her forehead against the cool glass of her window, feeling the rain as it rattled against the thin glass, sinking into the dull beat of some wordless song. The storm was far from over, as the news was calling for winds far worse, but in a way, for Teresa it was almost calming. Knowing that there was something enacting the rage that she felt inside, the sorrow, the pain. And for the first time in days she slipped into this deep sleep, dreamless and heavy, only to soon enough be awoken to the sound of a thunder resonating across the wide expanse in her skull. Her head ached and her eyes were brimming with water, her cheeks wet, and her lips stinging with the taste of salt. Was she crying? Running her finger tips underneath her eyes, she sucked in a deep breath, startling as the sound that awoke her came again, this time louder and externally from downstairs. Someone was knocking on her door. Or beating the damn thing down from the sound of it.
Brows knitted as she tightened the silken cord of her robe, the blonde rubbed at her eyes once more, tossing her hair back over her shoulders in an attempt to normalize her appearance before proceeding downstairs. Who the hell was out in this weather at this hour, and what the hell did they want? Once again she heard the pounding against her front door and quickened her pace, her prismatic gaze set in annoyance as she unbolted the large door, the heavy wind almost knocking her back as the wood collided with her collar bone painfully. “What the hell?” She breathed, her gaze looking the figure over carefully in recognition. “Kaiden...what are you doing here?”
