Kai faced the Prime Council, teal eyes brimming with a bright glint that grew within them each time her heart pulsed. The collar around her neck burned. She opened her mouth to scream and nothing came out, no sound, no mimicry, no mockery, not even a lashing of tongues. She simply stood before them jaw asunder and waited for the deal to be done.
“The matter has already been decided.” She heard them say.
“Un decide it.” She finally managed to answer as she gripped her fingers into the rail in front of her. She held herself up like she held herself together.
“That is not a possibility.”
“Everything is a possibility, if you removed yourself from the Lock once in a while and saw the planet around you, you would understand that. This is a beautiful place.”
“Then the matter stands.”
“Bastards and your decisions. Foul hounds of Haven coming down to order around my life.”
“You are no better than us, Kaihautu.” They answered in a chorus of voices around her, “You are just like us, Kaihautu. You are one of us, Kaihautu.” They paused and the Head of the Prime Council leaned forward in his seat, “Or perhaps you would like us to remind you.”
Her wrists burned in anticipation. She gripped the railing tighter, teetered, “Go back to Haven.” She growled.
“I would watch what you say, Kaihautu.” The Head replied, “We know who your friends are.”
“Yes, men far better than you could ever hope to be.” She looked up at the Head, “Let's do this then.” Kai replied and she drew down her mask, closed her eyes and stepped into the center of the circle.
