So i recently got hold of a collection of the original Showa-era Godzilla movies and im absolutely loving them! I really want to get into the Godzilla comics now but since i know nothing about them (or comic books in general) I was wondering if you could recommend any good ones to start with? Thank you so much, and I love your blog!

Hi! I'm so happy to hear that you're enjoying some classic Godzilla movies!! There are so many good Godzilla comics, but I'll just tell you some that I really like and are good to start with.

1. Godzilla in Hell (2015) by James Stokoe

This series is really cool and fun! Definitely one of my favorites. It's hard to find the physical copies but you can read a lot of it online or through Kindle/Nook.

2. Godzilla: History's Greatest Monster (2014) by Duane Swierczynski

3. Godzilla: Rulers of Earth (2016) by Chris Mowry

This is probably the first Godzilla comic I've read, my brother borrowed it to me when I was in the hospital and it was great!

4. Godzilla: King of Monsters (1977) by Doug Moench

If you can find these either online or in a vintage comic shop, I love them for the nostalgia factor. A great look at some of the original Godzilla comics!

5. Godzilla: Rivals (2021) by Mary Kenney

Last but not least is the most recent Godzilla comic I've been reading! They come out as oneshots and you basically just pick your favorite kaiju whether it's Mothra or Hedorah. Godzilla vs. Mothra is the most recent September issue, so I'm excited to see what else is coming out!

The "Redman" comic is way better than it has any right to be. In so many ways this is a gift to the fans. There's a forward from a crew member of the show, there are stills and concept art. It's delightfully violent and sometimes comically so. The lore it's building is exciting and the kaiju action is both surreal and incredibly detailed. My only regret is not buying two copies so I could loan one out.

If you haven't bought this yet, do it! I can't wait for volume 2.
