"I still don't really understand their relationship."
"I think they're just Tori and Michael and as long as they're happy..."
"Nothing else matters?"
"Yeah."
The first 8 pages of Achilles and Patroclus, written by James T. Washburn & illustrated by Chess Amadé Albaneze, a new queer graphic novel currently in production based on Homer's The Iliad.
Achilles and Patroclus was originally a play by James T. Washburn of @magpieartistsensemble, but Chess first encountered it as an opera in the Seattle Creation Lab of 2020-21. "I was in love with the text," they said. "The music too, but there was this intimate vulnerability between these characters that survived when blown up to a grand scale. It's hard to write like that. I was in love with the poetry of it all."
When James of Magpie sought to bring the text to visual life in the form of a graphic novel, he noted that "Magpie received a lot of artist applications for Achilles and Patroclus, but once we saw Chess's, there was no question in anyone's mind. Their work is visceral yet elegant - the perfect balance for a story where violence and tenderness intertwine."

Out now: CATACOMB OF TORMENT #2.
The latest issue of the EC Comics/Oni Press anthology features my first new comics work in years. My script for the story "Red Blend" was illustrated by Lukas Ketner, colored by Francesco Segala with Sabrina del Grosso and lettered by Tyler Smith c/o Richard Starkings.
The main cover is by Ariel Olivetti (above). There are multiple variant covers including one by Lukas Ketner and an EC homage by Jay Stephens.
I'll be posting more pages along with the script in a few weeks for my Patreon backers at the $5 tier and up. You can pick up Catacomb of Torment #2 at better and creepier comic shops (creepy in a positive way, not the Joe's Fantasy World way) and online shops.
If anyone has already picked up the comic, my sincere and heartfelt thanks. I hope you liked it, and our story. Lukas and I will be back in November with our second story, "Necronomicomicon", appearing in Catacomb of Torment #5.
THE "PERPETUUM MOBILE" IS OUT!!!

Out this week: Godzilla vs. America: Texas (IDW, $7.99):
The kaiju city-smashing anthology tour hits the Lone Star State, and since everything is bigger here in Texas, Godzilla isn’t content with just one city. This 48-page oversized issue features four 10-page stories by Texas-based comics creators, celebrating the state’s comics community while simultaneously destroying it.
See what else is coming to your local comic shop this week!
