I'm so sick of seeing only white actors play characters who do martial arts. They're happy enough to use our culture and history and the disciplines that we developed, because they think it's so exotic, but they're not willing to hire Asian actors in major roles. I see more white guys butchering our languages and taking our crafts and objects from our culture than any actual Asian characters in roles other than just the sidekick or the old teacher (and in Dr Strange we didnt even get that)

absolutely i think this is a problem that tends to be found in hollywood projects in general, but this show in particular did a really shite job of it. 

some thoughts on the show so far: (i’m on 1x07) 

the fact that a white guy fell out of the sky and was treated as ‘deliverance from heaven to save us from the Hand’. i just. yike

also ‘i am the iron fist and i never lose’. lines of this nature. yike

a white dude being the ‘chosen one’ in china (let’s be real it’s china). ok whatever you say 

i’d much rather watch a show about colleen wing 

i don’t mind that they want to work with asian culture—or chinese culture, to be specific. but the way they did it made it apparent that they had no heart in it, put no real effort into it, and only wanted the ~mysterious east~ness of it all to make the show ‘stylish’—a style anyone with actual asian background will find laughable  

the fact that danny’s entire character is based on his years in k’un-lun but we NEVER see any of the monks on screen for more than 3 seconds at a time says a lot. when we do see one monk on screen he’s floating around speaking incomprehensible mumbo jumbo 

any time we learn anything new about k’un-lun it’s from danny’s own mouth and i’m very tired of it. my heart drops knowing that the creators will not show me the world that’s supposed to be so important to the entire show because they never bothered to build it 

what the fuck was that spider-woman in the second round of the tournament 

the butchering of the language, as you said 

tl;dr it is a half-baked mess. next time just give him a pretty fighting style or something but by god without the bullshit background please. 

or, y’know actually do it properly 

the only redeeming factor is claire temple

so i had to google the movie title bc my native language is german so i was like what’s the german titel, do i know this movies???? and yessss i do! we watched it in philosophy class right before our trip to berlin last september! i liked it a lot :)
