Jinora is a princess with a soft spot for a certain kitchen boy. Kai was on the streets till he got in trouble when he was caught stealing from a merchant. Bolin and mako, some of the king's best guards, paid the debt and in return kai works for the castle.

Bolin started training him with a sword and Mako started helping when he realized he got into a lot less trouble when he was training. Hes still a kitchen boy rn but Makos thinking of making him an official apprentice when hes 12. Though kais already alot better than most the trainees even if hes lucky to get 3 hours of training in a day

Kai and jinora are both hoping he gets to be her personal bodyguard one day

During a siege on the castle kai imminently goes to find jinora. A couple guards have been killed protecting her and kai steals one of their swords. After he gets her out safe bolin convinces king tenzin to let him start officially training a year early.
