It's the start of their mating season, and Gai has been trying to get Kakashi to come to the festivities for the past few years. He's been hinting that he might be looking for a mate soon, but it seems like Kakashi just won't take the bait and would rather go bask near the surface instead. He wished that he could perform his Mating Call and see if his rival was influenced by it, but perhaps accompanying Kakashi up to shallow waters will be a nice substitution instead.

proof of concept (naruto, kakashi, dai, sakumo, kakashi/gai, t, part of my wasteland series)

Dragon grabs for him, her gloved hand stretching far as it will go—chakra strings shooting his way—but Kakashi still careens through Kei’s archway, his body heavy and light all at once, and the brilliant chakra of the barrier surges through him, tingling and distant. Typical. Just typical. Instead of Anko’s basement workshop, he lands in a wildflowered patch of forest with a soft thump. Birds cease singing. Kakashi squints up at the lit-golden canopy. He’s firing all his guards except Dragon and maybe Genma when he gets back. Sure, the assassin can teleport. And sure, it’s most likely a ring of assassins. And sure, he’s not dead yet. But his guards did just let their Hokage fall through a mystery archway to what Kei and Anko hope is another dimension.
