Why I ship Naho with Kakeru (despite Suwa being my favorite character)

The fanbase of Orange is divided into two groups, one group wants Naho with Suwa and the other group wants her to be with Kakeru. In the series, Suwa is my favourite character so initially I agreed with team Suwa, until I thought a bit deeper about this matter and now I'm with team Kakeru (although I still love Suwa).

The Reasons

The following are the reasons why I support Kakeru and Naho

Reason 1: Suwa's love is one sided

In the anime Suwa loved Naho and he tried to do everything to make her happy, he did not let Naho to mention in the letters that she is married to him because he is aware of the fact that Naho still had feelings for their deceased classmate Kakeru. Although Naho had said that she would still marry him even if Kakeru was alive, in reality she was lying, she was obligated to be his wife. If Kakeru was alive in the real timeline, Suwa had no chance against him which was proved in the alternative timeline

Sometimes Team Suwa mention the fact that being with Kakeru would have been harmful for her mind because she would be anxious about Kakeru relapsing to depression and probably trying to kill himself again.

But being with Suwa isn't healthy either. I am not someone who gives relationship advices but one sided relationships are generally toxic and exhausting, I can imagine Suwa getting exhausted in the long run and probably end up becoming depressed too.

Reason 2 : His guilt

One of the major themes of Orange was the feeling of Guilt, in most cases whenever someone loses their loved one to suicide, they tend to feel really guilty about it to the point of blaming themselves for the death. Kakeru blamed himself for the death of his mother, in the similar manner his friends blamed themselves for his death,

"I’m such a terrible guy who deprived Kakeru of both Naho and his future. If only I was aware of these feelings at that time…" these are some of Suwa's words which shows how guilty he feels for both Naho and Kakeru. In the movie (Orange: Mirai) he mentions how he 'stole' Naho, and considers himself as the worst person.

So in my opinion it was best for him to let her go.
