15) five most influential books over your lifetime.
THIS IS SUCH A GOOD BUT HARD QUESTION HMMM
sophie’s world: i read it when i was about… seven years old i think? i’ve reread it countless times since then and every time i do i discover something new. it’s the book that got me interested in philosophy and thinking about the universe, morality and people in general and if it hadn’t been for that book i probably would have turned into way less of a nerd so.
the a series of unfortunate events series: okay, this isn’t just one book but i’m allowed to cheat so whatever. i grew up alongside these books and they really shaped my sense of humour a lot. also, violet baudelaire was my first gay crush even though i totally misinterpreted it as ~admiration~ when i was still a wee bab.
die mitte der welt (the centre of the world): it’s more of a young adult book but i was still pretty young when i read it because i started reading way above my age group at a really young age. it was the first book with lgbt+ content i read (the main character is gay and part of the story is about his love for another boy) and it kind of blew my mind? because up until that point i just kind of assumed that straight people in everything were normal and that i didn’t even have the option of reading lgbt+ content and so being able to read about someone who was “weird” like me was honestly a revelation. it was also the first book that made me sob so hard i couldn’t see and had to put it down for 30 minutes to calm down so yknow, formative in multiple ways.
hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy: i mean. it’s hgttg. do i really have to go on. i read it during a time when i wasn’t doing so well irl and it managed to make me laugh during days when all i wanted to do was curl up in bed and cry so i will always feel super fond. also, the mixture of cynicism and pure unbridled optimism and love for humankind rly influenced my view of the world too.
hard boiled wonderland and the end of the world: will always be one of my favourite books ever probably. really vibed with my experience with derealisation and mental illness in general for some reason and also just influenced the way i write (as in: pretentiously lmao).

since i talked about hgttg just now…
“In the beginning the Universe was created. This had made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.“
