"Indian Slayer Gets Three Years," The Province (Vancouver). September 15, 1943. Page 7. --- REGINA, Sept. 15. - (CP) — Convicted of manslaughter when he appeared before a King's Bench jury in Regina last week, Private Eddie Stonechild, 25-year-old Indian with the Canadian Army, was sentenced to three years with hard labor in Saskatchewan penitentiary.
Stonechild was originally charged with the murder in Regina about August 8 of Evelyn Severwright, 16, an Indian of the Kamsack district.
"Doukhobor Trials Again Adjourned," Saskatoon Star-Phoenix. June 26, 1941. Page 4. --- Special to the Star-Phoenix KAMSACK, Sask., June 26. - The trial of Fred J. Rezansoff, Alex Sturgeoff and F. F. Konkin fixed for Wednesday morning was adjourned till Thursday, July 3, at the request of Crown Counsel W. B. O'Regan of Yorkton. The three men are charged with attempting to persuade Doukhobors to resist the enforcement of the National War Service Regulations and were arrested on June 17. They have been in custody since at Regina, from which point they were brought back Tuesday night, In view of the further adjournment, Magistrate S. H. Potter granted bail of $5,000 in each case with two sureties and the men were once again back with their families.
A large number of Doukhobors were in Kamsack to await the outcome of the trials. Also noticed in the courtroom was Mrs. Dorise Nielsen, Federal member of Parliament, who spoke in this district on Sunday.
The Crown did not have in its possession the original Order-in- Council of June 6 dealing with camp service of conscientious objectors nor the order directed to the War Services Board.
