Kanade kept refering in "Happiness Punishment" to "the end", in the event she couldnt think past saving Mafuyu and even her nightmare was just darkness, that is what she expects in Mafuyu's absence
It's pretty obvious she cant see a future for herself after that. Breaking that mindset is not something that can be done kindly or shortly, and as much as Meiko doesnt want to admit, we need Luka's method, we need her to acknowledge it and think about it before it's too late and she's at "the end"
