Kanji Kinetic has been producing bad-trip inducing facemelters for some time. As the creator/owner of Mutant Bass Records, he continues to unleash the fury upon the minds of gurned out punters from the free rave scene to the beer soaked nightclub dancefloor. His latest release on Chip Butty Records (CBR) alongside Dr Cryptic (CBR owner/creator) brings the womp back into the straight line kick. Predominantly running around 140 BPM, Kanji revels in the jet-fueled, twisted mid-range wobbles. A need for hectic activity in his music brings in the pulsing kick drum, a sickening array of hi-hats and zapping end-of-bar twists. The VIP of his mid-apocalypse soundtrack, Zombies, escalates fearlessly into the realm of gabba. The relentless onslaught is huge, even confined to the realms of your headphones. The music featured in this mix comes from the two Bass Oddity Volumes released by Kanji Kinetic and The Old Timers EP by both Kanji and Dr Cryptic.
Dr Cryptic, who produced two of the four songs on the Old Timers EP, which was released earlier this year on his very own Chip Butty Records. Cleaning up the fast-paced bassline dancefloor are his tracks, Bronson the Hedgehog and Dirty Like Your Sister. It’s great to hear some completely unaltered samples from the Sega Megadrive game Sonic the Hedgehog. Often, if a sample from an old game is used in a track it’s misted over into a barely recognisable form. In Bronson the Hedgehog however, a huge array of samples from the old game are peppered throughout the track. As the name Dirty Like Your Sister might suggest, his tracks are rude, unforgiving and, well you know your sister better than I do.
As a sort of bonus track, Murlo’s remix of Heartbroken by T2 had to be included in the mix due to the high-pitch vocals already included in Kanji Kinetic’s mix-ending track, Ur Heart. Check out the tracklist below!
