“Tuesday and Wednesday were day 2 and 3 of Kaporos. There were so many injured and dead birds. Kids were handling the chickens even though they had no idea how to hold them. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ If you don't know what Kaporos is, it is a religious ritual where a person swings a chicken over their head and says a prayer transferring their sins onto the chicken, then the chicken is slaughtered. This happens on the streets of Williamsburg, Brooklyn every year with the help of @nypd, cones and barricades. @nycmayor ignores all the violations created by this event and @nychealthy turns a blind eye even though we are in a pandemic. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ This first picture is of a chicken who had their wing broken to the point where you can see the bone sticking out, we were able to get them out of there so hopefully they will survive their injuries. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ There were children there that were terrified at the sight of the chickens being carried over their heads.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ We witnessed so many birds suffering and dying inside of these crates. We also saw them processing chickens in an open tent where flies were going in and out. It's that time of year again! Why do we allow this super small religious minority to visit such atrocious animal cruelty & abuse on helpless chickens in the name of religion? #IcallBS When the #Hasidic abusers pull back the chickens’ wings, firmly gripping their fragile wings in one hand & swing them around in the air three times, the wings of these poor chickens will often snap & the bones will pop out of their delicate skin. 💔 This innocent baby chicken was dripping in blood while the ritual took place. The man holding her could not care less for her well being, which is pretty much typical of all ritual practitioners, which calls into question what exactly is going on here.
