Kar Vastor: Our entire ghôsh was slaughtered by Balawai and I survived for a year in the jungle by myself with no supplies. I'm now entirely nonverbal due to the trauma and communicate only with the Force and echolalia of my akk dogs' vocalizations, and we're the last two surviving members of our clan.
Mace Windu, pulling out adoption papers for the entire 91st Recon: Actually I have 162,001 children, including Depa who you've obviously already met.
Kar: You what.
Mace: Obviously they're all adopted. Anyways, once we beat the asses of the colonizers genociding our people, including the General who forced me to make a deal with him, do you want PTSD therapy back at the Temple? Our mind healers are trained and equipped to deal with survivors of this scale of atrocity and they won't blink at the way you communicate.
Kar: What.
Mace: Of course, if you want speech therapy to be able to talk out loud again, you'll have support, but it's not expected or required. You have options. The mind healers can even come here. All your men have options, too. And while we're at it, Masters Drallig and Nu would definitely want to meet them all and talk with you about their training and tactics and the specific sociocultural context in their creation and way of life.
Kar: .....
Mace: What?
Depa, to Kar: He's just like this, I don't know what to tell you.
(note: a corps is canonically under 40k men but the canon GAR structure makes no sense to me so I came up with my own and 162k it is)
My first post of 2022 - let’s kick things off with a bang:
Here we have a Mace Windu hilt by 89Sabers, sporting GOTH’s Master Chassis, printed in Rhodium & 18K Gold-Plated Brass. While not (in my opinion) my finest work, I do think this is a strong contender for one of the nicest sabers I’ve ever built.
Only the best for the Korun Master of the Order and resident Bad Mother Fucker.
And as it happened, when I was commissioned to build this saber, I was also reading Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover, for the first time. First off, the TL;DR version of my review for that book is that it’s legitimately brilliant, and people should talk about it more often.
Secondly, I also have a Depa Billaba saber that I’ve been working away on for the last several weeks and I’m just about ready to show it to you guys. Keep an eye out for that in the next few days.
So now that the old EU is dead (long live the EU!) and Disney is bringing into their new EU some old characters from back in the before times, like Thrawn, can we talk about one of THE most amazing and underrated Star Wars characters?? AKA Kar Vastor, AKA this OG baller:
Alright so Kar Vastor was basically the biggest, baddest force user on Haruun Kal, so much so that he both impressed and terrified the otherwise unshakeable Mace Windu. Like this dude was a straight up BEAST:
Like, this guy OOZES power. Just pure, straight force power. And it’s sortttt of dark side power, but Kar Vastor isn’t a Sith. He’s not a schemer or trying to rule the world. This guy genuinely cares about his people, and wants to protect them. He has no desire to be enemies with Mace, and is capable of commanding loyalty and respect, and is hella intelligent. He’s also got a strict and unforgiving sense of justice, but in his mind- he’s fair. Mace has ideological disagreements with him, but Kar is a hero and champion to his people. He can also be kinda funny!
And ultimately, his raw power and connection to the force (along with the brutality of war on Haruun Kal) ends up convincing Depa that the Jedi are doomed, and Kar’s way is the only way forward.
Kar Vastor is one of the most INTRUIGING and powerful characters in Star Wars. If anyone deserves to be canonized in the new Disney continuity, it’s this dude.
Seeing Mace finally say that Depa is his daughter while she is trying to kill hurts a lot.
I feel like the ending of this book is going to be a gut punch.
Are we sure Mace hates Anakin? Because that’s literally something Anakin would do lol.
That seems a bit too realistic for my comfort.
