i entertained this fun idea for a while, but it would seem likely for him to be with someone he's known longer than high school

like think if you were in oikawa's year
and you were friends with both of them, and tried to balance both of those relations

you were still close to tobio, mind you, and followed his journey through his middle school years.
he was afraid you'd treat him like everyone else did after the whole 'king of the court' incident.

you still believed in him and told him things would get better, there would be more room to grow.
and then of course, you saw each other in high school
you, a third year, close friends with daichi and suga and asahi and kiyoko, a manager of the volleyball club (gasp, who would've thought)
you, with your unwavering faith in him, with your gentle smile and warm hugs, your continuous encouragement- you, who grounds him.
you captured his heart (long before he knew it.)
and he was yours.

now that you have him, he is putty in your hands

he runs up to you like when he first learned to give high-fives to the team and just- shoves his head in your face??? it is the cutest thing
please tutor him. help him get decent grades. you're the first one he comes to for help when he realises he needs to pass the exams to go to training camp in tokyo (and ofc yachi or yamaguchi help when you're not around), but you motivate him so much!! he likes getting things right when he's with you
(lmao who am i kidding, he always likes getting things right- the little perfectionist - but it would be a major source of motivation, if you were there)
he smiles his nice smile at you. he usually does this when he thinks no one's looking but even though you pretend not to, you always do.
you always see the sweet, innocent big eyed boy no matter how time changes him
sighs in hopelessly whipped for each other
so fun story, he accidently hit u with a volleyball once. hard
he freezes for a good minute, trying to process what just happened. only when daichi runs over and screams if youre okay and sits you up and you have a nosebleed, does he realise. oh shit, he fucked up
needless to say, he apologised so much. for the next month.
oh, and you're now cleared from the premises during spiking practice when he serves.
is a dry texter so prefers video or voice calls. That way he can see or hear u and vice versa so uk he's paying attention <3 (green flags i tell u)
would LOOOVE if you help him practice after hours, when it's quiet and just the two of you
would also HAAATE hinata for "barging in unannounced" and "third-wheeling" (his words, not yours) his peaceful little practice session with you
you would help him balance school and volleyball by helping with planning out his priorities and things like that
you sit with him and discuss previous matches, possible opponents, the team, techniques, his skills and all of that because you know where his passion lies and you want to support him to the best of your abilities. you know he is steadfast in his devotion [he would say this applies to you as well :)]
honestly, he doesn't know what he'd do or where he'd be without you. and he doesn't need to either, because you'll be there.
even when you grow up, and he receives the offer to go pro, there was never a question of choosing between you or volleyball, because he knows, when he hears you calling out his name in the stands- you'll be right there behind him. you'll always be there.
