Capital Idea?

Discussing the pervasive, invasive impact that finance culture has had on aspects of US culture with little or nothing to do with making profit. There’s the attention to “management” in non-profit organizations. There’s discussion of whether giving money to a homeless person is a good “investment”. There’s the demand for quantifiable results in education. There’s even talk of time “invested” in romantic relationships.

In what ways have you seen corporate and/or capitalist culture affect other spheres of life? Which have been positive, negative, most bizarre?

"What Kind of Asian Are You?" This video has made the rounds, but we got to wondering what comes next. The dialogue demonstrates "What not to do!" so what's the alternative we could be teaching people instead? Are some questions impossible to ask politely? Are some missteps unavoidable? There are parallels, too: in genderqueer communities, it can sometimes be rude NOT to ask someone their pronoun preference -- of course there are better ways to ask the question. What are the better questions to help the clueless become less clueless?
