#time after time#nicholas meyer#karl alexander#steve hayes#malcolm mcdowell#david warner#mary steenburgen#charles cioffi#patti d'arbanville#james garrett#leo lewis#andonia katsaros#keith mcconnell#byron webster#karin collison#laurie main#joseph maher#bob shaw#miklós rózsa#awwww yeeeh. a timely revisit after many years. funnier than I remembered; has an odd tone actually with the middle section be a prolonged#meet cute fish out of water rom com thing but the bookends having some grim violence to them. still it's cute stuff with some delightful#moments even if the very ending might rankle for some (imagine choosing to go back to Victorian society as a self professed feminist..)#the mvp of course is my main squeeze‚ my right hand arm‚ Mr. David W. he wasn't the studio's first choice (they wanted Mick Jagger) but#director writer Meyer and key producer Herb Jaffe wanted DW from day one and fought tooth and nail for him. they reaped those rewards#Warner is frankly (even factoring in my inevitable bias) fantastic here. he's doing so much brilliant character work in a subtle‚ disarming#way. his softly spoken monster is never two dimensional‚ has a complex‚ beguiling mind and personality. he adapts to the future much better#than McDowell's HGW but not as well as he thinks: DW does some small things like wearing his trendy new tie still in a public school knot#or the way he cautiously operates an unfamiliar tv remote. and his reunion scene with HGW in the 70s is fascinating in its obvious choices#of homoerotic undertones and choreography. and then McDowell strikes him and he raises a hand to his cheek so gently and looks at him with#such big wounded eyes... a literal serial killer playing poor little meow meow.. DW the man you were‚ the artistry you had
