@tinytrashqueen said: It can get dark, but it’s also super campy so i wouldn’t describe it as scary
Ahh, it does sound good and your description is really tempting me to start it.
@lavenderbyun said: i guess its supposed to be romcom - but a lot of the 'romantic' gifsets made (my gifsets incl) are very different/less romantic in context idk how much of the plot has been spoiled for you though so i'll stop there haah. i'd still recommend it though ~ its a cool twist on romance i guess?
This is the danger of starting something based on gifs, I feel like I’ve tricked a few people as well lmao. But not really, because you’re trying to pull out the best bits? I’m excited for this, though, Anisah!
@acupofchar said: There's moments of soft horror but nothing too scary, and hints at dark moments but not on screen so far, although i'm prepared for much angst to come! :)
Thanks you for the reply! I’ve seen a few caps of the horror parts, but yeah, they don’t seem overpowering or hard to watch.
@karisimas said: I'm enjoying it. The romance is developing using a device I haven't seen before
@millkiway said: Its romantic in the least romantic way and i l o v e it omg , idk i dont really feel anything dark so far but that varies for everyone i guess, i defo reccomend!!!!!
@namidajanai said: The ghost zombies seems kinda scary haha but its a tomc With twist... I really like it❤️
I like that you guys are describing it in a similar manner haha. I’m definitely looking forward to marathoning it now :’)

I love reading your perspective and analysis. I do wonder though, if Shao Xi is happy with their relationship. She did try and move away from him because it was too painful for her.
Maybe? I’m going to double down ^^;;
I think the only reason she did that is because of the messages she received from everyone enforcing the culture norms. She’s been constantly bombarded with negativity and I think that would hurt anyone in that situation to be told you are wrong in the way you love someone to the point you need to run away.
So many of those messages include: It’s wrong to like someone after being rejected. Hide your feelings so you don’t make him uncomfortable. You need to seek after a love relationship and not a friend relationship.
I think Shao-Xi is happy and comfortable until someone or society tells her No, you can’t have this because its wrong. That’s when it falls apart and she feels miserable. Li-Zheng’s monologue in episode nine where he expresses frustration with the relationship rules he’s expected to follow si really great because he’s feeling that dissatisfaction too.
The great thing about Li-Zheng is that he realizes it isn’t Shao-Xi’s fault he feels this way--it’s the expectations placed upon them. The pain they feel right now is because they are giving into the rules and the expectations set upon them, not the friendship between them.
The more I think about it, the more the message of this story seems to be, loving someone is a precious and important decision, make sure you’re sure before you give another person that feeling.
Shao-Xi is more self aware and in touch with her emotions than Li-Zheng so it stands to reason that she came to her conclusion faster than he did. She didn’t even get to confess her feelings her way. It was done for her and she’s been scrambling to clean it up ever since.
I honestly think if outsiders left them alone, Shao-Xi and Li-Zheng would naturally come closer together and be satisfied with what they have.

Thank you. I don't understand the fans who think So's recent behavior came out of nowhere. Are we watching the same show?
I don’t understand them either. I’m really lucky that most of my dash recognizes the growing horror that is Wang So, so the only time I encounter the So Apologists is when one of the people I follow reblog their posts with a rebuttal.
But So stopped being pitiable a long time ago. I think this is where not knowing the public opinion of Gwangjong’s reign puts us international fans at a disadvantage. When I read his wikipedia article and saw the beginning episodes, I thought this was going to show us why his attempts to obliterate the noble class and give more power to the common people (abolishing slavery, creating the civil service exam) justified his bloody history. Good people can do bad things. Being king isn’t easy and I thought after showing us Taejo’s mistakes of so many wives, concubines, and sons, Gwangjong would try to fix this internal struggle and simplify his kingdom.
He reigns for twenty-five years.
Instead, the throne makes kings paranoid and murderous. Like, that’s a boring and simple story.
I just think it’s important to remember that the writer told us exactly who Wang So was in that first week when he slaughtered his horse and choked Hae-Soo in the baths. Every week has been an escalation from that first week. He is the most consistently written character in this drama. Everything he does builds from that.
Because he was never the hero and he was always the monster. Executing Chae-Ryung the way he did, did not come out of nowhere. Trying to put Hae-Soo in isolation as his doll, did not come out of nowhere, he’s kidnapped her before. The way he sent his mother to the afterlife was terrifying and creepy but after he appeared in her bedroom, covered in blood, it did not come out of nowhere.
We are not meant to understand or justify So’s actions. We are meant to be afraid of him. The message, as it has always been, from the first time Lady Oh warned Hae-Soo has been this:

Which drama are you describing?
JTBC’s Fantastic with Kim Hyun Joo and Joo Sang Wook (and Kim Tae Hoon and Ji Soo and Im Ji Kyu as #relationshipgoals with the amazing Park Si Yeon and Kim Jae Hwa, except for Kim Tae Hoon who is all mine).

Any sliver of hope I could have possible had for this drama is so far out the window I can't even see it anymore. I feel like the whole theme of this drama has become "men are useless" None of them are capable of doing anything for Hae Soo or anyone else.
Yeah, my even cannot anymore, too. I don’t mind the “men are useless” theme but it is literally breaking Hae-Soo. It is telling us that useless men just hurt the women around them. And they aren’t being punished for being useless. Hae-Soo and Lady Oh are being punished because they are useless. It is kind of exhausting.

When So said "I lied." I shouted at my screen, "Asshole."
I said “Fuck you.” Like, she preemptively rejected the kiss by pulling back. He had his answer. And he took it anyway. Seriously, did the writer pick up a pamphlet listing out the ten signs of abusers and decide to check off every one? There is a way to do a complicated, morally gray king. Having him abuse a woman who cannot get away from him is not it.
Watch two episodes in one night? Why yes, yes I did.
Which means it’s way way past my bed time, which means this is a much shorter post than usual (yay?)
Spoilers Below
I hope this is just him reporting what happened, and not yet another case of secret connections because I’m really counting on this guy to be the one person who’s exactly who he claims to be in a sea of deceptive cops and criminals. Unfortunately not only can I not remember his name or even his rank, I also haven’t come up with a nickname to remember him by. So... yeah. This guy. Is my last hope.
Okay, I notice he says that Safari is responsible for Shi Hyun's mom's death.... is this the same warped reasoning that Trenchie uses when he says people are responsible for killing dead cop? I hope so. I hope Safari didn’t actually have anything directly to do with Shi Hyun’s mom dying.
Actually, having spent 11 hours with this show, I’m starting to think that maybe his mom really did just die of an overdose, and that’s one aspect of this whole thing that doesn’t have a hidden deeper meaning. But now that I’ve said that, I’m sure it’s going to come back and bite me in the ass two episodes down the line.
Oh dear. Did I once say papa cop was better to his undercover agents than Trenchie? The parallels between Shi Hyun and Safari are pretty immense, but he's being pretty horrid to Safari.
Although I suppose if Safari really has gone rogue then it might be warranted.
He’s been undercover for over twenty years, that’s a lifetime to dedicate to a cause and not see results. I can’t blame the guy for becoming a bit unhinged. And he still manages to be so lovely through all the madness.
Oh Safari, you're breaking my heart. Why would you choose this path?! This is going to kill you (literally) and Shi Hyun (figuratively.... I hope) and that’s going to kill me.
Ugh he is so creepy. I can’t even start with this guy he legitimately gives me the heebie jeebies.
..... he’s joking, right? Because while that detective in the pink shirt is my candidate for straightforwardness in the cop department, Soo is his equivalent in the underworld, and if either one of them turns out to be a double agent I’m going to be so mad.
Oh, Shi Hyun. In this episode we basically went through so much just to get back to pretty much exactly where we were in episode 1, before he pulled that power move on Scale. I can’t figure out whether he’s going to get more or less respect after this, because he managed to overthrow people and show them he’s capable of a fight, or because he failed to make it to the top successfully.
And then to top it all off you get this silly little chit of a girl being all earnest and thankful and caring about you, only to then turn around and throw a big wet towel of “BUT YOU EVIL FOOL” in your face.
Seriously Soo Min, I could just smack you.
I think this was actually the best pacing the show has had so far, the hour just zoomed by, and I wasn’t bored or restless for a minute. If I didn’t have to get to work tomorrow I’d have booted up the next episode right away. Not much happens in terms of bringing the story forward, in fact, we seem to be moving twenty steps backwards, but in my books this was one of the best episodes so far.
